there is no longer such thing as an elite player, which is why it is stupid to put them on a list with LEGENDS.

Back in the peak of nhl it didnt happen. If you were better than a team you won 10/10 times. It wasn't noob friendly. If you were the best you didn't lose to somebody worse than you. There was no momentum bounces and all the fucking bullshit there is today. There was definitely no wrist shots going in on human goalies, lmao takes no skill to press up on your joystick kiddos. Definitely didn't miss empty nets from 2 feet away. etc. etc.

The retired LEGEND nitro x 09 says its best: there no longer is any separation from the pretty good and the elite, anybody can beat anybody.

 

Obviously a lot of players from 09-10 could be on here, but just for discussion sake I limited it to players still around.

Then what was the point to play? Sounds like all you had to do was compare point totals before the game and just let that decide the winner. Granted I wasn't playing back then so I really could be far off base with this one.

 

to become better and try to be the best in div 1. so you can win a month and earn a spot in EAs year end 6v6 tourney.
winner of that tourney won a trip to vancouver to play some ps3 nubs and got to try out next years game before everyone
now kids live for it for nothing but a mere 50$ in nuges tourney which all nubs join- eas tourney was the best of the best except i believe qc and it was age restricted(cj?)- only bad team was jagr bombs they fucking blew donkey nuts

Seems like a contradictory statement, considering this is a thread for the "elite" to talk about how good they once were...

 

Having played against all those centers in the time frame except CJ in 10 (who I played only once in 10), I would say that Matt in 12 was better than all of them. Matt in 12 and Chea in 10 would be my picks for the two most dominant players in the history of the series, based on what I was around for.

Active plays LD but I appreciate that Active is playing on a line with himself.

Probably also would have given Prince Sumo a look at LW but I don't know for sure.

 

you just said it yourself, the game is too unpredictable now to go 200-0. But how do you know some of the top teams now wouldn't have done the same if they played back then? In theory, the top teams now are the most skilled players just like those guys were in 09. Just because certain players played when the game favored the more skilled team to win doesn't mean that the players now that lose a few games are any less talented because of the dumb ea bounces.

Some thoughts on this list:

Wasn't Cheaaa and Tyg better in 11? I don't remember too much of 9th Wonder in NHL 10 because they I'm not even sure if they were a team.

I'd have FSU over every center on that list.

Gremz #4 RW based off of NHL 09? Who did he play with? I don't even remember him from 09 unless he had a different tag.

I'd also have 09 Odie above the other RD.
