NHL: Advanced Stats Discussion

I honestly feel like generating interest in things at the NHL level can be one of the most difficult things to do in leagues. While there is generally a outcry for media when other leagues are getting the focus it can feel like the support for the people doing it is less. I have decided to attempt to bring advanced stats (the base of the system [MENTION=7406]F5 Penguin[/MENTION] and I have been working on) to all three levels. What I'm looking for is a few people who are interested in dedicating some time in grabbing the raw data from each week of the NHL. You can either post here or PM me directly to start working on this, I would be looking for 3-4 people to grab the stats from the NHL.

OEE: The average time played in your own end playing active defense before the other team scores.
TOD: Time played on defense total
Goal Support: The average amount of goals scored by the offense in your games
Goal %: The amount of goals the defensemen scores in his games
Assist %: The percentage of assists the defender calculates into (his goals are removed)
Scoring %: The percentage of scoring the defender actively contributes.

Where:
T = Trolling
Rt = Real talk
Ap = Asshole posts
Gc = Game chat
Cb = Chat box
Rs = Racial slurs
G = Games
Pw = Poor winner
Pl = Poor loser

 

we used to keep track of individual players face offs won/lost/%

this is something we could bring back. I know that sometimes the C goes to the box and its a winger taking the draws, but the total face-off count for the game would just be applied to the C for each team. The info is already available in the box score, so it would just be a simple data pull.

I know its not a huge deal but its still nice to see.

GSW: No not gunshot wounds... Goal Support in wins
GSL: Goal Support in Losses
GSD: Goal Support Differential
GWO: Average amount of goals needed to win out (A 2.00 would mean you lose by a goal every game)*
ATS: Average time between shots on net.
BSP: % of shots that come from the breakaway

There is a few more things I would love to add in here but this is the base, things to come are Penalty Kill % while in net, Breakaway/Penalty shot % tracking. If EA tracked odd mans we could do alot of great things with defenders and goalies.


* Seriously considering subtracting the flat 2.00 and running it as a +#.## to make it cleaner.

Agree, but only for one goal games if possible IMO. Having the 3rd goal in an 8-2 win isn't that significant.

 

I feel adding Corsi to a players/team profile could be beneficial in seeing which players are greater with puck possession on the strength of schedule of others. Despite the fact this game does not calculate Shots missed and blocked shots in a lobby game, some minor modifications could be made to the formula.

 

Now that NHL is officially on board I think it is not called Corsi or Fenwick anymore.
