To compliment him on the first line they went all in on LG Legend Boss of Bosses, which could be somewhat of a gamble. He's far removed from his golden days of old-gen NHL but maybe he'll be motivated to return to form with someone like LoL with him. Other than those two at forward there isn't a whole lot there. LikeABoss, Sudzy, and Cotes is a meh 2nd line. Where they lack at forward depth is definitely made up in other places though. SkillzPayBillz is the top 2 dman every team desires, and joining him are a load of above average dmen. This may be the season where @Kazpor gets to shine. And at goalie they picked up two studs in Kerns and Garbs. Kerns will likely be tied down by PSN/ESHL, but the games he will be available for will be almost guaranteed points for Carolina. Garbs can also hold his own. They may be on the outside looking in due to this rough division, but they have the right people to make something happen. He laid out big money for the Brad/Gerbe/Marcotte line, and he'll expect that notable trio to produce for him. @CaLL Me Jakoo appears to be staying which is a huge boost to the second line as without him it would be hard to fill with someone as talented and affordable. Their third forward line of Wags/Walsh/Bullbreed has plenty of chemistry and will also be able to hold their own. On the backend @Deceasedgoblin and Rammer Hater are a great top pair. They only question mark out of the six is @Wolfy l12l, who's been away from the NHL pace of play for a little while. He has the right mindset though, to keep the puck out of the net. When your 6th dman isn't a liability it's very comforting for the team. Speaking of liabilities, their goaltending may be where that concern lies. Larsbone may be a suitable backup, and it's hard to tell what kind of season Jabber is going to have. They are going to be facing a lot of strong offenses in their division (NYI, NJD, PIT), so hopefully the strong defense in front of them bails them out occasionally. Z3R0CR45H (G) VRA 1S 0R$750,000 Spent: $32,000,000 Cash: $3,000,000 This team is unsurprisingly very good. Stick always builds playoff-caliber teams no matter the situation he's presented. This season though, he may have built a potential cup contender. The forward core is stacked with talent and chemistry. Laine/Riorio won't have to carry the load of top line play and will be able to pound on weak third line matchups while Stewkos, Fox, and Co. will be more than good enough to handle good lines. MarkyMeatball may be a steal at 500k too. The Devils defense is also looking very good with the likes of Sitck, Ped, Spooer, and Clement rounding out their top 4. Bonez and Miller would be a fantastic 3rd pair on any team, and if matched up with Riorio and Laine expect them to slaughter 3rd lines. Like Columbus the weakness of this team is goaltending. Zero and Smelly are in the "good enough" category. They won't steal you many if any games, and may cost you one or two. But more often than not they will get the job done well enough. With their cap space expect them to try and upgrade that position. Grades: OFF (A) DEF (B+) GOL (C+) New York Islanders Forwards 1. Basful (LW) A RA 2S 0R$2,000,000 2. Fisher and Clamps have built what could be the best team in the East. At forward you have talent on every line with Kcut, Gren, Fisher, and Basful. Grappler will be the wild card. If he can perform like he does on defense you can call this the best forward core in the East. @WoollyDanimal12 is also heavily underrated along with Schwatz. Brandon may be the only weak spot. At defense it's the same story. Clamps(or Bren)/Trobs is a killer top pair, Bren/Durkriot will be a fantastic 2nd pair. Donnywood/Trocity is about an average 3rd pair, but they may be split up to improve the overall setup. At goalie, either Gally or Knight could be the starter on most teams. It's hard to nail down what their top forward line actually is though. It may be Yoshi/Carch/Breaky, which at first glance seems kind of weak compared to divisional opponents. Expect Moe/JLP/Bixted to be their most dependable line while Smirky is used to bolster another line. @Korpy is a very sneaky pickup, and very valuable at 500k. At defense Drai and Terry are a great top pair while Vargy, Garoo, and Queek are all suitable top 4 players. Shanebobane is their 6th man, and it will be interesting to see who he is paired with. In net they had to go cheap, and they got some good 500k goalies in Nightmare and Lauxey. They are cheap goalies for a reason though. They should do a decent job, but nothing special is going to be expected of them. Grades: OFF (B+) DEF (B+) GOL (B-) Montreal Canadiens Forwards 1. Glitch Goaling (LW) VRA 1S 0R$500,000 2. Past those three there are a lot of gambles that were made. Which Midi is going to show up this season? Is Yuri any good at forward? And can Glitch Goaling/Killzone do a good enough job on the 3rd line? There are far less questions at defense though, as Panda, Kabobo, and BlueLineKing will do a good job at filling up the top 4. @Bubba GX finally didn't get a 4m+ bid and is probably one happy anime lad. St Michel is always going to put up points as well. Defensively they picked up several top 4 guys in Super Marky, Backlund, and Lil Nickai who will all do a good job on the top pair. They did a fantastic job of picking up Ksw, Wutang Financial, and Papi Gonzalez, all of which can do a great job on the depth lines. Uupy is their only realy question mark at forward, and they have the cap to improve his spot and the likes of Poopeded. At defense they also did a great job of picking up talent. @BRADENxHOLTBY was supposed to be a top 3 pick in his draft before he took management, he may be the steal of the draft. One of the best forward groups in the LGHL, and it'll get even better once Stifmeister decides its time to play on someones tag. Defense- Huge pickups in @Watman and @CadarianTV . Nothing excites me more than seeing the fucking sleemo crusher lacing them back up. @Keith x l 2 l is a top line defenseman, and @McNasty x 97 is also very good. Goalies - Could be the best 1/2 punch in the league. @APsychicTaco is a serial killer, but hes also one of the best goalies in LG. @x Lundqvist x would be a number 1 on most teams, but not with the man himself ahead of him. Legit chance to represent the East in the Stanley Cup Finals." The latter seeds however are up for grabs if any of the 3rd-6th spot teams falter or excel. The Metro division may steal the wild card spots away from the Atlantic, possibly allowing Washington into the playoffs even with a good New Jersey team. The Flyers are on the outside looking in and the Rangers are really going to have to make something out of nothing to pick up a wild card spot. ATLANTIC Lightning (Z) - 95% Maple Leafs (X) 80% Panthers (X) -80% Canadiens (W) - 55% Senators - 45% Red Wings - 40% Bruins - 35% Sabers - 30% Tampa may be able to run away from the rest of this division if they play their lines right, meanwhile it will be a two way scrap for the division seeds between Florida and Toronto. Ottawa, Detroit, and Boston are likely to scrap for a potential wild card spot if they can steal it from the Metro division or Montreal.
Is everyone in agreement with Taco that OTT and MTL are better than PHI on paper? Also imo this is the worst Brando team I have ever seen. They will be 6-8 seed at best
The East and really the league as a whole seems to be anybody’s to take this season... Last season you could pretty easily pick 3-4 teams and say these are your best teams this season. Looking at these two divisions sure there might be a couple of teams who stand out a little more, but you honestly can’t count anyone out of a wildcard here. It’s all going to come down to chemistry and who adjusts to NHL18 better (and by that I mean whoever decides not to slam their heads through a wall at some point due to this games’ absurd pokechecks).
Thanks for pointing this out! I completely missed him! I didn't recognize the name. I'll do a quick edit.
You know I played for Gulash and Kryss in every season before the last one in fairness But also good write-up and content!
