Media POLL: Rating NHL 18

How would you characterize the overall rating of NHL 18?

 

If you could consistently pick up pucks and it didn’t bounce like a fucking bouncy ball this game would be great

 

We all play the same game whiners.

 

Honestly I would be fine if the speed/acceleration was higher to counteract the strength of the poke check. I don't mind the pokes being as accurate as they are, but they are so strong there is no way to really individually create the way you could in versions past. There is a fine balance, and this game is too heavy on the pokes and not fast enough on the skating.

My skater feels like I am back in youth hockey which really takes away from what the game used to be. Make the players feel like the higher rated players in VS and we would be a monumental step in the right direction. We still talk about shitty servers to this day which is mind blowing. Fort servers are mint with so many more in game. Don't understand why they can't invest in some upgrades there. I think most of the smaller complaints go away with a smoother playing game.

 

They have to fix the netcode for the west vs east players. clean up animations so the game isn't so choppy. I still think the rink needs to be a little bit bigger to give a bit more space.

 

Bring back NHL 14

 

its hard to judge the game when the servers are horrible. Probably an ok NHL
but doesn't work right with server connections and is shittybecause of it.

 

What the hell? 20 people say it's better? Drugs are bad mmmmkay. The game is trash but we're forced to keep buying it because A) We like playing LG B) There's no competition. Puck pickup is atrocious, some of the animations are horrible, random places on the ice make your guy do crazy skating things and deflections are broken....but hey we can chew on mouth guards, lol. Oh well, it is what it is, EA is going to do what EA is going to do.

 

Pick 2, but 3/4 of the options are bad? I personally believe this is a great game. Everyone complains about the issues they have and blame it on EA, but we're playing the same game, we all get it. The new bandwagon is shitting on the game when they're making new cool changes every year. No one mentions how they added the RVH, or the defensive skill stick, all you hear is the negative stuff. Like god damn we get it the game has flaws, show me a game where everything is perfect, show me. One thing that confuses me is how they say NHL 14 was better than NHL 18, but like wtf? Do you not remember how glitchy NHL on old gen was? You could teleport the puck with some weird button combos, you could go through an entire team of people by pressing one button, the artwork was garbage, there were like 4 modes people played, and it was just bad. At least today the game is somewhat realistic instead of the BS we had in 14. The same people complaining about NHL18 were the same ones that 1)Stayed up all night to download the beta 2)Played the beta endlessly and said how great it is 3)Spent $60 on the gamer the day it came out. "This game isn't worth the money i paid" Then why do you keep buying it year after year?

 

Most people who say the game is bad or that it always gets worse are just mad when they lose and never want to take the blame or look at why something went wrong. That being said, there are plenty of ways they could improve the game including improving netcode and balance tweaks for EASHL. I don't doubt people have valid reasons for disliking the direction NHL 18 took, but most people need to get some self awareness.

 

People who think NHL 18 is a good game are the same people with half a brain that spam R1. If u don’t see the problems with the physics (puck pick ups, stupid animations) of this game ur blind. Old gen consoles had NHL right.

Just getting worse and worse each day I miss the old days where when you log online to the game youll always have same playable settings this years game nhl 18 wow its the worst game ever made so far I thought nhl 17 was bad this game is unplayable from the game settings on top of it im west I avg 30 to 80 MS wtf do ya want me to do EA continue buying broken games this is getting old tbh if it keeps up fuck nhl 19 and hockey games!

 

Bring back lounges and having to setup your own player builds please

 

Game is trash but it's still better then NHL 17.

For me, defensive skill stick is the best thing this game has to offer.

 

This. the defensive skill stick changed the defense game completely. You can now keep up with the forwards who like to dangle their balls off. "Oh but all people do is spam it, and it's broken cuz you always get penalties. BROKEN" well you're supposed to spam it, that's the point of it. And of course you'll get penalties, as with any other method of stealing the puck.

Another good feature is for goalies, the RVH. Most of you are garbage at goalie so you couldn't care less about it, but it made wrap around and short-side shots so much better, plus it has the added bonus of seamlessly coming on and off the post. Plus it looks cool

I mean this game does need alot of work, but it's getting there.

 

RVH isn’t new, it came out in 17 and aren’t you the guy that quit cause you got sent down in s5?

 

Ok, that's still relatively new

And damn, didn't realize we were bringing LG into this.....but no I didn't. My owner told me to quit when I was GM, and I got banned for it
