    The Calder Memorial Trophy is an annual award given "to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League (NHL)."

    Before we start, I want to make sure everyone knows that no member of the committee was or will be allowed to vote for an award in which they are nominated.

    To clarify 2 things, the Community vote will count towards the total vote, which includes the votes of the Committee members.

    Also, for Strength of schedule, the lower the number, the tougher your schedule. If your SOS was a 7.8 (Conf) and a 15.2 (League), your average game played would be against the 8th place team in the conference, and 15th in the league as a whole. Really high=really poor SOS

    If you guys have any questions as to why someone was not included, I will be happy to answer and provide the numbers to back it up.

    These are your 6 finalists for the Season 7 Calder Memorial Trophy.
    _____________________________________________________________________________________

    @King_Anze LW, Nashville Predators
    Overall Production 85P, 45G, 40A, +41, 3.04 PPG
    Vs. Playoff Teams 10-4-1, 43P, 24G, 19A, +15, 2.87 PPG
    Vs. Non-playoff Teams 12-1-0 42P, 21G, 21A, +26, 3.23 PPG
    Record 22-5-1
    Strength of Schedule 15.43 (League), 7.86 (Conf)
    Team Performance 10th (League) 5th (Conf)

    Anze (Also known as Choban), came to LG finally after being a mainstay in VG for a long time now. He teamed up on Nashville with his west coast partner in crime Tarasenko to form an extremely dangerous West Coast Line this season. He produced at elite levels vs playoff teams and put up 22 wins in his rookie season, with his 85 points and 45 goals both being tops for all rookies. His point and goal output were both good enough to put him top 5 in points, and top 10 in goals throughout the entire league. He also had a very solid strength of schedule
    _____________________________________________________________________________________

    @jared2112 C, Edmonton Oilers
    Overall Production 79P, 20G, 59A, +38, 2.93 PPG
    Vs. Playoff Teams 11-4-1, 44P, 12G, 32A, +21, 2.75 PPG
    Vs. Non-Playoff Teams 9-1-1 35P, 8G, 27A, +17, 3.18 PPG
    Record 20-5-2
    Strength of Schedule 14.19 (league) 7.26 (Conf)
    Team Performance 6th (League), 4th Conf)

    Jared had a brief stint in the NHL last season, but went big in bidding after winning a Calder Cup last season. He followed that up by anchoring Edmonton's top line to a Divisional title, and 20 wins of his own. His strength of schedule was the best of any rookie and one of the best in the league period. His 59 assists were good for tops for all rookies (2nd in the league overall), and his 11 wins vs playoff teams were good for 2nd best amongst rookies.
    _____________________________________________________________________________________

    @l_Giroux_x_28_l C, Colorado Avalanche
    Overall Production 72P, 34G, 38A, +53, 2.77 PPG
    Vs. Playoff Teams 9-1-0, 23P, 10G, 13A, +10, 2.30 PPG
    Vs. Non-Playoff Teams 16-0-0, 49P, 24G, 25A, +43 3.06 PPG
    Record 25-1
    Strength of Schedule 17.48 (League) 8.92 (Conf)
    Team Performance 1st (League) 1st (Conf)

    Giroux, the 2nd overall pick in last season's draft, came into this season with a chip on his shoulder, wanting to prove that he was not only worthy of that 2nd overall pick, but deserving of the 1st pick. He exceeded expectation by losing just one game all season (to fellow Calder candidate King_Anze), and had a spectacular year down the middle for the powerhouse Avalanche. His strength of schedule was not very good, but he did his job better than almost anyone this season, as he and his line proved to be nearly unstoppable. His 72 points were good for 3rd amongst rookies and he led all rookies with a +53. His 25 wins, tied for 1st in the league, were enough to set the record for most wins in a rookie season on PSN.
    _____________________________________________________________________________________

    @Fishhure RW, St. Louis Blues
    Overall Production 71P, 29G, 42A, +39, 2.63PPG
    Vs. Playoff Teams 9-2-1, 29P, 13G, 16A, +12, 2.42 PPG
    Vs. Non-Playoff Teams 14-1-0, 42P, 16G, 26A, +27, 2.80 PPG
    Record 23-3-1
    Strength of Schedule 17.56 (League) 8.85 (Conf)
    Team Performance 5th (League) 3rd (Conf)

    Fishhure, like Jared had found himself with a "Cup of Coffee" in the big leagues previously, but this season finally got a chance to establish himself as a full time NHL'er, and boy did he ever show out. His 23 wins were good for 3rd amongst rookies, while his 71 points and +39 were both good for 4th amongst rookies. His strength of schedule, like Giroux, was not great, but for the most part he maintained his production vs playoff teams, and did his part in helping the St Louis Blues to a top 5 finish in the league- which absolutely nobody expected before the season.

    _____________________________________________________________________________________

    @xKuzy19x RW, New Jersey Devils
    Overall Production 66P, 25G, 41A, +52, 2.36PPG
    Vs. Playoff Teams 16-1-0, 39P, 14G, 25A, +39, 2.29 PPG
    Vs. Non-Playoff Teams 9-1-1, 27P, 9G, 16A, +13, 2.45 PPG
    Record 25-2-1
    Strength of Schedule 14.54 (League), 7.46 (Conf.)
    Team Performance 2nd (League) 1st (Conf)

    Kuzy made the switch this season from Xbox to PS4 and with that, stepped up to the big leagues over here. He made the transition seamlessly, and on just a 500k contract, proved to be an absolute steal for the Devils with his offensive prowess and ability to cover for his linemates defensively. He played the most playoff teams with 17 games vs playoff opponents, and went a ridiculous 16-1 vs those teams. His production didn't quite match that of his other forward finalists, but his +52 was good for 2nd amongst rookies, and his SOS along with 25 wins, which also tied him for the most ever in a rookie season left no doubt that he is very deserving to be a finalist this season.
    _____________________________________________________________________________________

    @BA_Sports_Fan LD, Minnesota Wild
    Overall Production 32P, 7G, 25A, +31, 1.23PPG, 101TA -68 TA/GA
    Vs. Playoff Teams 10-2-3, 15 P, 5G, 10A, +17, 54TA, 1.00 PPG
    Vs. Non-Playoff Teams 8-3-0, 17P, 2G, 15A, +14, 47TA, 1.54PPG
    Record 18-5-3
    Strength of Schedule 15.30 (League), 7.84 (Conf)
    Team Performance 3rd (League), 2nd (Conf)

    Our only non-forward finalist this season, BA was the 2nd d man off the board in last season's draft, and taken 5th overall, I can only imagine the owner responsible for picking a d man before this guy is kicking himself now. His 32 points were tops for all rookies from the back end, and 4th overall in the league. His +31 was 18 better than the next highest defenseman on his team, and his 101 takeaways were good for 3rd amongst all rookie defensemen. His strength of schedule was very solid, and his 18 wins were the most in the league amongst rookie d men. He was the anchor on the back end for a Wild team that finished 3rd in the entire league.
    _____________________________________________________________________________________

    It should be noted that @Capitalsfan_08 was slated to be our 7th finalist this season, but he played 26 games last season, which made him ineligible for the Calder trophy this season

    Clearly no agenda here. Why does the league have bias members on the awards committee? Still salty you couldn’t score once vs giroux? Cup check

    I’m not trying to sway any votes here, but I think it should be noted that @l_Giroux_x_28_l had a reason to play hard this season and dealt with a blow that no other finalist on the list had to deal with.

    You see @j483beale informed me Giroux lost his pet hamster (GoHam) before the season began due to sudden onset Cardiac Arrest (that means heart attack @Polska_B0SS_780) and he vowed that despite playing every game every night, with a very heavy heart not able to see his pet hamster run in his wheel, Giroux still showed up, balled out, beat some of the best players in the league WITHOUT A WEST COAST ADVANTAGE, And did it all for his fury little friend who’s currently running his little heart out in hamster heaven.

    Giroux for calder because of the tragedy and it’s not even close.

    Shoutout to @eastons17 for taking him under his wing during these tough times and Pastor Palmer for giving him daily sermons to get through it.

    Jared2112 - His strength of schedule was the best of any rookie and one of the best in the league period.

    ^ If that isn't enough of a reason for him to win Calder I don't know what is @JClaus33

    I had the strongest schedule out of all vezina nominees last season. You don’t see a vezina on my profile. This man is a liar.

    I just want to say that watching giroux and anze battle back and forth, neck and neck all season was quite a show to watch. I dont remember another lg season where we had two rookies both battling. The drama of seeing when giroux would get his first loss, if anze would be handing it to him, who would be breaking records was all exciting to watch unfold. Jclaus writes a good summary of the rookies here in the thread but don't let this man distract you from the fact that in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer's table.

    You can look at all the colors that the site makes available for use. Colorado would be burgundy/brown or blue, there's no burgundy provided, and the blue was too similar to STL's color. I felt like I wrote all of these descriptions pretty fairly, so I'm sorry if you disagree with that

    Just an example here, but to try and explain it as simply as possible. The teams are ranked 1-31 in order of points, divisional standing doesn't matter in this case. The teams are also ranked 1-15/1-16 depending on which conference you play in. Then you look at the teams that each player played against and the number assigned to a team is added up. I feel like it's hard to explain this in writing, but to give an example, Nashville was the 10th overall team in the league, and 5th in their conference, Colorado was 1st and 1st, and Minny was 3rd and 2nd. If you played those 3 teams in a week I'd have it written out like this;

    10+1+3

    5+1+2

    you add up those values for every single game the person played then divide by the number of games played to find the SOS. This is a huge reason why it takes so long to get this stuff out cause going through and calculating this for every person in contention for any award is very time consuming.

    So like, if player A played Nashville's 3rd line twice, and Minny's 3rd once...they would technically have had a tougher SOS than player B who played CBJ's 1st line, EDM's 1st line, and NYI's 1st line? Seems flawed.
