The JClaus Rule

Now that my bidding thread is out of the way, I thought I'd discuss something that I think would be incredibly vital for this league to add.

JClaus constantly goes for salaries that hold his teams down tremendously, no matter the succes they achieve and the hurdles they climb - he'll probably never have a chance at winning a cup when you have to rely on 500k armies to play around him.

I think it'd be smart for the league to make a ruling on players such as Claus. I'm going to breakdown the method to my madness in 3 simple steps.

1) Player X tells the league he thinks he'll go for above 10mil.
2) The league contacts all 31 owners and has a vote. if more than 50% think player x will go for over 10mil, they make a decision.
3) Player x is now thrown in to a draft lottery, with every team having the same % chance of getting him. A team wins him and has the choice of keeping him, trading him or skipping entirely on him if they don't wish to have him on there team, which would lead to the draft lottery having a second go around.

Player X is now 10mil salary on the dot for whatever team wins him.

I think this would be very beneficial to the competitiveness of the league and someone like JClaus would undoubtedly take up this offer. You can't compare his salary to anyone's or to the current NHL. He is legit almost half his teams full salary and has been for the past few seasons. Its time we make a change and stop punishing him by adding a cap max if a player would like one.

My point is that there will be someone else in his spot if that were to happen. I think its smart that we start promoting competitiveness.

 

He should take over Canes after this season, but that would make too much sense

 

Is this discussion really taking place after Claus was in the Stanley cup finals?

Don't get me wrong, $15M is absurd and it will be incredibly difficult, but it's already been shown that a good manager can find ways to make it work.

 

He's had miracle runs. Pittsburgh's 3rd line went like 6-1. I'm not saying you're wrong - I'm just saying that the odds are heavily, HEAVILY stacked against that ever happening again and in his situations he was put on teams that had really really favorable contracts that you'll probably also never see again.

But let's also forget he got caught cheating twice. But hey, since he's a top player and always goes for a lot, and is a nice guy now, he should be excused for the crimes he committed!

But hey, everyone else that's still on the NML for cheating, let's just keep them there because they aren't top players. So dumb lol.

 

Bidding reflects the value someone is willing to pay for someone's talents. Just some owners can't control themselves.

I think an owner needs to decide when to give up bidding on him. His value to his team starts to be negative when it prohibits other talent from coming on board. No need to interfere with market forces.

 

Kraz as a GM, Sedin at 0$, Mac at 2M, bstie on a laughable 500k carry over contract. Gary way undervalue.

The pens situation was completely unique. Its not going to happen again unless you get that perfect storm.

 

I think let gms bid whatever they want. If teams want to handicap themselves then by all means do it.

Sedin is right he needs to be allowed to manage 0 out his contract, most teams managers would garnish 5-10 mil in bidding depending on the player. Him managing accomplishes what you are trying to accomplish.

Main issue eith your idea @DynoMikeV2 is this is a sim league, we just don't see what your recommending play out irl.

Someone posted the other day he has not been punished. I disagree getting stuck with 14.5-15 mil contract season after season is the punishment. Eventually I expect this to level out though. People have seen what you can do with a Jclaus team team and what you can do with a team like Col. I imagine over time people will attempt to setup more teams like COL from S7.

 

Even simpler. 10m should be max contract. If multiple teams are to bid 10m on a player the site randomly selects one of the teams. Letting the player decide would lead to shenanigans.

 

Good management should be able to make a team around a guy with that much salary IMO. Nothing to see here

 

Why should Knees be off the NML and not JClaus33. Is what Jclaus33 did really any worse than what Knees tried to pull off?

 

jclaus needs to stop making the playoffs and going to the finals everytime and his price would drop. This is the year the baloon will burst and he wont make the playoffs.
