MASS's Player Ratings (Week 1, AHL)

Hello everyone, welcome back the competitive season of online hockey. As we all know another season means another season of stat crunching. As some may have remembered during the mid parts of the S8 summer season I developed a rating system for players based on position that took in account all stats weighted differently. The plan for this season is to give weekly updates of the top players at each position based on my ratings. None of my ratings have any opinion based decisions. These are purely based on the stats the LG site provides.

The Goalie rating system is completely new and I didn't get a good chance to use good data to develop it so expect multiple tweaks and changes as the goalie stats are collected each week.

*Note: Because of how the logarithm works ratings are comparable for specific positions only and can't be cross compared. (Ex. LD 60 rating does not necessarily equal RD 60 rating.)*

UPDATES FROM SUMMER
-Fixed an issue where skater records were displaying and being converted into dates
-Added Goalie Rating Tab
-Added Rating Accuracy Value for all positions
-For Skaters this is calculated by games played divided by 29. This is based on the max number of games a player played in S8
-For Goalies this is calculated by games played divided by 54*. This is subject to change if a goalie passes 54 games played.

Love it. I've actually used your ideas to develop another stat entirely along with a few other stat formulas I made to come up with essentially one super stat. Kind of like WAR in baseball. Keep up the good work Mass.

 

I wish I could get on this list with 3 goalie games played

 

that goalie rating is trash af how does a goalie who played 3 games vrs me who play 5 had more wins a little less save% buy face close to double the shots beats me then a goalie with worse stats beats me to mkay

 

I see that, working on a revision. I agree that you should be ranked higher. Like I said, its going to take a bit of tweaking to get the goalie rankings in decent shape.

 

Yea that’s what I’m saying I played 6 games with a 87.4 save percentage and nothing snubbing a spot from true starting goalies

 

UPDATE FOR GOALIES:
-Added in total saves as a factor
-Added in number of wins divided by the max amount of games played by any player as a factor. This should make those playing more games rated far better than those playing less if the stats are similar.
-Adjusted the logarithm scalars to still add to 100 if best in every category

Let me know what the goalies think and see if the ratings seem more accurate now

make more sense that way unless the backup goalie has a unreal 3 games it should be hard for them to beat starters

+/- might be a little high for defense. I might be a little biased but you know its hard to get those pluses when your team doesnt score.

I like your formulas for G. I was looking at it this morning and couldn't agree more with those good job

 

Yeah, it was hard to find a happy balance for that. I'm still looking to revise it as more stats get put in. I understand what you are saying though. My team last season was all defense so if we won it was by 1 and my plus minus was never more than 3 and less than -3 during the whole season.

 

I miss you too and yeah I made a quick fix that a couple others mentioned and it looks pretty solid. As more stats get put in each week I'll get to fine tune it hopefully if needed.

 

Very nice work! I feel like it would be beneficial to add weighting to the stats by incorporating the opposition players grading and teammates grading at the time (game) the statistics occurs. This would dynamically effect the value of each stat incorporated into the equation.

 

I totally agree and I've been working on a way to do that effectively but haven't had much luck. The issue is that everything is set up so when I copy and paste the stats over it calculates everything instantly. In order to incorporate opposing stats I would have to search every player in the league individually and manually make the calculations. I'm looking into a way to incorporate a team stat ranking and then those would have a very small weight on individual ranks meaning someone who is 5-1 on a team that is 5-4 would be ranked higher than someone who is 5-1 on a team that is 8-1.
