Hey guys, sorry for the delay with awards this season. Between the holidays, a new semester of school and my team going on a pretty nice playoff run I haven't been able to put in the time needed to gather and research all the stats for everything until now. We do plan to have every award finalist thread up this week so everything should be done before the end of the week. For as much info as we give, it takes a long time to put it all together.

Here is last season's thread if you'd like to look back and see how we've done things previously.

    https://www.leaguegaming.com/forums...n-8-calder-trophy-voting.277572/#post-1790472

Before we start, I want to make sure everyone knows that no member of the committee was or will be allowed to vote for an award in which they are nominated.

The Community Vote will be included in the final vote, along with the committee votes.

Also, for Strength of schedule, the lower the number, the tougher your schedule. If your SOS was a 7.8 (Conf) and a 15.2 (League), your average game played would be against the 8th place team in the conference, and 15th in the league as a whole. Really high=really poor SOS

A new stat we've introduced this season is called 'Quality of Competition'. It's done through a formula created by @radicalapex and basically gives a PR value to your average opponent. If your number is 38.2, that was your opponents' average PR. To give an example, someone having an 'elite' season is generally above 45. If you have any questions ask Rad cause he's the man behind it all.

If you guys have any questions as to why someone was not included, I will be happy to answer and provide the numbers to back it up.

Also at the bottom I've included all of the stats and info we have for the finalists, please feel free to use them before you vote.

Last season had an outstanding rookie class, but we definitely agreed that having 12 people as finalists was just too much. We've cut it down this season to 7.

    _____________________________________________________________________________________

Finally, before we start I want to address what will appear to be a pretty glaring omission. @I-MT98-I was likely the favorite for this award, however the awards committee (9 people) voted 6-3 that he was no longer able to be declared a rookie and as such is ineligible for the Calder. The reason for this is that he played 14 or more games in a previous season (Over 50% of a season), which is substantially more than the NHL rules, but is where the ruling has been set for the cut-off here. If you've played more than 8 Non-ECU games, or 14+ games in any previous season, you exhaust your rookie status. I agree that it sucks, but this situation hadn't arisen before and a ruling had to be made. Regardless, you had a great season MT.

So with that said, here are your 7 finalists for the S9 Calder Trophy.

Originally taken in the Season 7 draft, Mikey finally got to step into the NHL this past season with the Rangers where he was able to contribute 18 wins for the President's trophy winners. His 18 wins were the most of all rookies, and also had a 1.59 GAA, 2nd amongst rookies. He put up almost 2PPG playing mostly with the 3rd line. Despite being on a 3rd line most of the season, he maintained a winning record vs playoff teams at 7-4-2

Guila, also known last season as jpjacques, was taken 16th overall in last season's draft and jumped straight into the NHL, winning 15 of his 24 games for a Canadiens team that not many expected to make the playoffs, but did. A large part of what lands him as a finalist are of course his very solid 15 wins and 56 points but most notable is his absurdly strong strength of schedule at 13.08, easily the strongest of any finalist. Playing with a d core that was questionable at best, he managed to win 8 games vs playoff teams and his 56 points were 2nd amongst rookie finalists.

Another guy who manned a 3rd line this season, troy had spent a long time down in the AHL, primarily as a d man, before finally getting a shot as a RW with the Sharks. A pretty solid hut player, he showed that his thumb skill did translate from mode to mode as he picked up 16 wins for the Cup Finalists. His points weren't the highest with just 48 but as part of a 3rd line he did go 6-2-0 vs playoff team 2nd lines and posted a 1.92 GAA, 3rd lowest for finalists.

Like Mikey and Troy, it took JD a few seasons to get a chance in the NHL, as he was drafted 20th overall prior to season 7 by the aforementioned Sharks. He spent the last 2 seasons with the Barracuda averaging 19 wins and 58 points. He stepped his game up with the Islanders after getting a chance in the NHL though, as he posted 62 points, most of all finalists and more than he'd put up in either of his 2 AHL seasons. Most of his production however did come vs Non-playoff teams, and his 41.6% on face-offs is not great to say the least, however his production was unmatched by other rookies and his 15 wins puts him right in the middle of finalists.

Our first defenseman finalist, Gamingfreak made his debut this season, after being drafted 19th overall in season 8 by the Rangers, and spending all of last season in the AHL with the Wolfpack, where he won a Calder Cup. He played with a wide variety of linemates, with his most common linemate and him only playing together in 9 of his 21 games. His 15-1-5 record is the best of any rookie this season, and his 1.57GAA is the best of all rookies. His strength of schedule however is very average, and he arguably was surrounded by the most talent of any finalist. That being said, he went 9-1-2 vs playoff teams including 6-1-2 vs playoff 1st and 2nd lines.

The other defensive finalist, Jrascia went 26th in this season's draft, one of just a few guys to make big contributions to their team from this draft class. His 18 wins were the most of any rookie skater, and his 9 wins vs playoff teams tied him for the most. He went 4-2 vs 1st lines and maintained similar production vs playoff and non-playoff teams. However, he was only a +1 and had a 2.32 GAA, along with a pedestrian SOS at 16.50.

    Overall Production 83.1 SV%, 2.31 GAA, 5 SO

    Vs. Nonplayoff Teams 16-5-2, 82.8 SV%, 2.21 GAA, 3 SO
    Record 24-15-4 (43 GP)
Strength of Schedule 8.40 (Conf), 16.07 (League)
    Record vs Lines (1st, 2nd, 3rd)
    Quality of Competition 38.3
Home and Away Record Home Record: 8-10-3; Away Record: 16-5-1

The only goalie finalist this season, Soulplane edged out Jkhank and his goalie partner, Keen_CJ, due to his more impressive production vs Playoff teams, with an 83.5%. All 3 goalies were on the edge or just outside of the top 25 in terms of goalie numbers, and Soulplane had the edge of the 3. He put up very good numbers this season on a Detroit team that just snuck into the playoffs.

Love me some Gamingfreak but always thought @guilafly10/jpjacques was getting no recognition all season long, I hope he picks up the trophy. :)

@Jrascia by far. Best player to come out of the draft and carried the canucks D last season.

Shamelessly voting for myself. If @I-MT98-I had been eligible I would have voted for him.

Imagine being considered the worst rookie out of the above though. Big yikes. People still sleeping I see.

I believe @Jrascia is the one who had the biggest impact on his team. He was their LD1 and will continue to be this upcoming season.

GamingFreak deserves it. Plays with makeshift lines in club every night and hasn't had consistent lines in LG either and still finds ways to win games. This is for best "New" NHL player. A majority of these people have been playing with nhl guys on a nightly basis. But Egos gonna Ego and stroke each other off, not saying everyone else isn't worthy just obviously going to win over a guy like gaming cause vote for your friends first.

Bruh guila earned this. He stepped up and played big games and filled in second line on a playoff team and did what he needed to do. Pay the man

Gotta go with my boy @Jrascia kid was an absolute stud, and one of the nicer guys on the site. Going to be a top D man for years to come.

@guilafly10 is a true beauty as well and is absolutely nuts on the sticks, proud to have both these beauties

@YellowPwnzYou and no, it’s because they’re both better than you
