Roster Reset for NHL 20

There has been a lot of talk in the MGMT chat about a possible roster reset for S34 (the first season on NHL 20) bc the league is becoming stale and it adds some excitement to things.

@LG McDonald seems against it and the BOGS @Winston Payne @ShortyxLOSE @Josh l96l @FLYERSfanFURY seem to be split on a reset, but they want to to see what the community thinks and told us the best way to get things done is by making pills to gauge the communitys interest.


*Try to vote with as little bias as possible, even if you are on a great contract or your team has great assets and vice versa if your team sucks or your contract is inflated.

 

However, even if they decide to do a reset Brodie said he will not announce it, bc they don't want terrible trades to go down for summer season. @GreasyGogan @BozWPG



A couple people proposed they announce it now and only allow 1 season contracts and no draft pick is awarded for trading in the summer this upcoming bidding.


For S34 all of the rosters would reset.

1.) All owners and new owners would have to re-apply

2.) No assets would be kept, completely wipe. (People suggested being able to keep a guy or 2 or DPs but that is not what a roster reset is)

3.) Owners select GM and then apply for what teams they'd like



NEW RULES PUT INTO PLACE
1.) Minimum 1M contract, min contract is 1M, all bids after 1M can increase by 250K increments

2.) Contracts can only be resigned x number of times

I like the idea of it being announced early that way you don’t have people getting upset that they signed a certain amount of seasons and get their contract reset in the middle of it.

 

Roster Reset would help to get better quality owner since everyone will have the same thing to start with and bidding will be much better with that too considering how many good players will be in bidding .

I voted yes, but only if we abolish re-signs all together or get rid of multi season contracts as well as raise the minimum bid from 500k to 1M.

Part of the reason we end up needing a reset is because players on good contracts have a decent amount of leverage to get themselves from a bad team to a good team (Or if you're me, the opposite @Karmuh x 86). Good teams usually aren't forced to trade their good players for these guys, as evidenced by the last 20 seasons. There will always be bad teams, but part of the problem with the system is that it's basically designed to keep players on good contracts out of bidding.

This is especially problematic in the first offseason after a roster reset, everyone having a ton of contract years and two re-signs means anybody on a decent contract gets kept out of bidding. You end up with a few teams who have tons of cap space and like 8 players in bidding worth spending it on and they have no chance.

There are logical reasons why a reset makes sense, but if we don't start fixing how we get here than what's the point?

 

Stewkos brings up a good point, something should be put into place to prevent roster resets from needing to happen in the first place.

Maybe go so far as making it so a player can only be signed to a 2 year contract at most OR re-signed once. So if you get a 2 year contract you can't be re-signed at the end of it, and if you get a 1 year contract you can only be re-signed for one more season and then you have to go back into bidding. And teams can only give 2 year contracts/re-sign up to 3 players total per season. (not 3 of each)

Maybe an exception for draft picks, they get the 2 year DP contract and then can be re-signed for one more season.

 

Why is everyone so obsessed with changing things? The league is fine, stop trying to perfect everything.

Why not just add them a year early so that the league can have a consistent schedule starting in NHL20 (along with a reset if we chose to do that)? We all know they're coming, obviously the main issue is we don't know the name as of now.

If a reset happens I think the league could use a full seasons notice. From what I've seen, one of the main goals of the reset is to get the best management possible running all 31 (32) teams, but randomly doing one after a season in which managers worked hard building assets for future seasons could see managers get pissed, and drop out. Which would be counter-productive. The Bogs would have to monitor trades closely at the deadline to avoid teams being stacked.

I voted no and I’m the worst contract in the league. No need to reset everything. Just change resign prices and or limit the amount of times a player can be resigned. It will only take a season or 2 to get a lot more good players in bidding unless the game still sucks then it won’t matter.

 

Well, everyone said I was washed. Blame the current good players for my price being so low.

I voted yes but like tris mentionned i would only do it when we include the 32nd team seattle

Also i am fine with contract starting at 1m and increasing by 250k

I would also be in favor of changing the contract resign to either increase the prices or limit the amount of times a player can be resigned

Maybe resign could be changed to only 1 per team or a player can only be resigned once before going back into bidding
