Way more stable. I had Shaw cable before and ping was higher, upgraded to Telus Fiber 300/300 and it's the most stable connection I've had and the ping did lower!

I had fiber optics but just upgraded to gigabit yesterday and my ping significantly improved and the stability of the game. Granted I am east coast but my pings were

    80- west
    30-central
    11-east

so far ive only played a game on West and Central with the new connection but my pings were 60 for West and 18 on central.

in NYC metro area Fios fibre gets me 13 ping east, 28 ping central, 70 ping west. Previously I had Optimum cable and had the same ping, but occasional issues with it being inconsistent. Fibre NEVER goes down for me since infrastructure is so new. I'd always recommend getting fibre for the newer switches, lines, and equipment alone.

The biggest thing people want is their ping magically lowered by 50% and realize afterwards that you can't escape the laws of physics.

Everyone in this thread confirms it will not lower your ping by any significant amount.

The whole backbone of the internet is fiber 90% of the distance traveled is over fiber even on cable.

    Is fiber better than cable?

    Yes.

Is the higher cost worth the upgrade?

You have to be the judge on that one.

This is 100% correct. I work for a telecommunications company and more than 95% of our "fiber to the premise" customers have copper coax running through the house. It's going to eventually hit that bottle neck and get slowed down. Unless you spend out an ungodly amount of money, not worth it in my opinion, you will not receive the full effects of having fiber. Also ping has very little to do with your internet service and mostly to do with location and distance from the nearest server. Ping will decrease minimally just based on the speed of your internet but not enough to really notice.

its the way the game is made, their servers are piss poor, Tbh you will most likely feel a little improvement when playing but i dont believe it will be enough to warrant a huge upgrade if the price isnt right, You will definately get benefits of the internet in your every day usage, but nhl series networking is trash, I always get the top internet and dont ever get any benefit from it for my nhl gaming, Downloading the games to play is done in a jiffy ..depending how much of a pain it will be for you to upgrade, you could always try it and if you dont see the improvements are worth all the xtra money then just downgrade to what you currently have.
