Wingels' AHL Player Ratings Mid Season Ego Checked Edition - I needed to step up my game, so here's more detail.. Hi, So bigdiskk came out with some excellent analysis and number crunching earlier this week. But he did so with alot more detail and numbers than what I normally give out. So the child in me decided to do my best to be the best! Big props to bigdiskk on his work, I love any statistical analysis and is always fun to read! Here's a link to his post: https://www.leaguegaming.com/forums/index.php?threads/bigdiskks-elo-rankings-week-4.299350/ Here's my player ratings and team rankings at the mid season mark. Spoiler: How it works This rating system is similar to an ELO system that you may find in games like Chess and online games that have a matchmaking system ie; Overwatch and League of Legends. The system calculates a rating based off chosen stats that are weighed based on importance for each position. A comparison to the real life NHL would be WAR or GAR. These stats are, in order of priority for forwards: Scoring Factor (SF) which is the percentage of goals that a player contributes to when on the ice. Points per Game Goals For per Game (GF/GM) Time on Attack For (TOAF) Winning Percentage, with OTL being half a win. Goals Against per Game (GA/GM) Time on Attack Against (TOAA) LARGE JUMP Giveaways - Takeaways per game, the lower the number the better Shots per Game Goal Support For defenders: Goals Against per Game (GA/GM) Time on Attack Against (TOAA) Winning Percentage, with OTL being half a win. Scoring Factor (SF) which is the percentage of goals that a player contributes to when on the ice. Goals For per Game (GF/GM) Time on Attack For (TOAF) Points per Game LARGE JUMP Giveaways - Takeaways per game, the lower the number the better Shots per Game Goal Support For goalies, stats included will be: Win% Save % Goals Against Average (GAA) Shots against per game The "average" player will have a rating of 1000. Above that is better than average while lower will be below average. Each number is calculated by determining how good a player is in a stat compared to the median, which the middle value, which represents the "average" player in a stat. Players that are better than the median will have a higher number after calculations, while it will be lower if below average. Example: The median for Points per Game is about 1.7 for forwards, so if a player has a points per game of 2.0, then the player is in theory, performing better than the average forward, and thus will have a higher rating. Each stat is then put into a formula to find the total rating. Most stats require the player to be higher than the median to be considered a positive factor, but G-T/GM, OZE and GA/GM require the player to be below the median to be considered positive, as the lower number in these stats the better. There is also a coefficient to raise the rating to a 1000 average ELO system, which is different for each league/position. Example Calculation for a NHL F: SF-OZE+GS+OEE+TEAMPTS%+PTS/GM+Shots/GM-G-T/GM+GF/GM-GA/GM x NHL F coefficient On top of the rating, due to the increase in difficulty in the upper leagues: ratings will be increased to balance out. These Ratings only cover seasons S29-S33, and ESHL S9-S10, so if your team is made of former NHL 15 Lords, it may not show as positive. The reason it’s only this recent is the competition was much different then compared to now, and as players come and go from the league, we want to maintain that everyone is around the equal amount of data to process. Some vets may have a 70 point season from S22, but only had 35 points in S33, which wouldn’t reflect on how they are currently. Note: Some players may not have career stats due to not playing their current position since s29, or they changed their username recently. Some players ratings may be slightly off due to small games played (recent call ups). Holy fucking shit. You and @bigdiskk need to fix @Tris10 broken ranking system. This is awesome and incredibly impressive. Great work, both of you.
REALLY great job with the presentation, algorithm and information behind the formula. I like this a lot. Fantastic work.
BDisk said I was number 1. So his is cooler. Yours is accurate, but his is cooler. Lol just messing with you, good shit, I love seeing this.
Fantastic work @WingelsDGC. I know what kinda work it takes haha. Love the fact that you’re able to compare career vs season stats. Good stuff
So we have 15 first liners, 1 third liner who's 5-0-1 since he's been playing with us... Then we got @DangIe Nation the only 2nd liner. Hahaha suck it shitter.
@WingelsDGC I think your numbers are off since it called me a 1st liner which is definitely not right
