Hey everyone, first off, Jesus Christ! 107 upvotes on the worst contracts article. I’d say thanks and that all 107 of you really enjoyed the read but I know most of you just wanted me to do the extra work! My intention going into this was to pick the best contracts through bidding but that was too difficult due to the legitimate lack of solid contracts, so I cheated a bit and there are a few resigns/multi-season contracts included. Maybe I’ll go back at the end of the season and take a look back! *Note: All mentions of lines/linemates were taken from @Miikey’s wonderful Predictions Threads* Let's get started. Number 10: @xOgLowkeyyx | RD | $500k I don't know if I’m just grasping at straws trying to find cheap contracts via bidding or what, but I really like Lowkey at $500k. Since he’s paired with John_Sheldon that probably makes them one of the best 3rd d pairs in the league. Too bad Prom and the rest of the team is hot garbage. Number 9: @Le-TKeSS | C | $500k Le-TKeSS used to be a very solid player back in the day, as evidenced by his past contracts, but over time it became abundantly clear he was probably being overpaid. Then, last year he got a beautiful $500k contract. He’s certainly washed beyond reason but $500k is still a stupid steal for him and its likely part of the reason why Philly was able to spend as much as they did on Gab and Kush. Playing with Kush will also see him put up numbers much like the old days. Number 8: @Firstnation91 | RD | $500k This is a really weird one. Stat-wise he had a very solid season, going 15-6-3 with 21 points in the regular season and 3-1-1 in playoffs. Those stats alone should warrant a bigger contract ESPECIALLY when compared to worse contracts similarly skilled players with worse seasons had. There was a bit of beef between Nation and the Habs last season when our shitty 3rd line would get shit pumped and he would start trolling. I honestly think nation is a solid D-man though and if he is paired with a defensive LD this contract could really look like one of the absolute best in bidding. Number 7: @Curtl88l | RD | $1.75mil Curt has been a staple in the AHL for quite some time now and it should come as no surprise to see him finally stop dodging the NHL in order to make the jump to play alongside his former AHL GM, @bonwl. Bon was probably willing to go up to $3.5 mil for him, and considering some of the terrible D contracts, and how nasty he actually is, I’d say $3.5 mil is fair for Curt. He’s one of the very underrated up-and-coming players in this league. I have no doubt he’ll have a terrific season on the Islanders if he plays on anything but the third line. Number 6: @Domix28- | C/LW | $500k When I played against him in the playoffs I thought he was utter dog shit, but then he rubbed his nutsack all over Fog, Lazie, and Cyr, so maybe consistency might be a problem for him. Regardless, he had a great season going 21-5-2 with 70 points and is certainly on one of the best contracts in the league. Number 5: @BA_Sports_Fan | LD | $5mil BA is probably the best West D-man that consistently plays on west lines (Desjy and PTP mostly play on East). While he has a reputation for only being able to play on west, like Diamond, he’s still great no matter the ping. If you ask some people they’ll say this was the best contract in bidding and it is certainly up there. Hopefully he and their DP forwards can carry that west line because Bigfreeze can't. Number 4: @Sebassgod35 | RD | $2.5mil Sebass was on Charlotte’s calder-winning team last season and he was terrific, going 24-4-0 with 29 points. Now, it looks like he’ll be on NJD’s top line with Mclovin, Aali, and CMike which all but guarantees him a great season. One interesting tidbit however, he ECU’d 8 times last season going 3-5-0 with 2 points. From the outside looking in, it seems like he may have struggled a bit. Of course ECU games are never easy however and I think he’ll do just fine and show he’s worth his conty and much more. Number 3: @Lazy Pedestrian | RD | $2.25mil Lazy is a solid D-man even though he hasn’t played D or in the NHL since S9. This may have made some owners hesitate, but regardless, he should have been a lot more. He has been consistently solid, generally winning 16-18 games each season and putting up respectable numbers for a D-man. This is no doubt one of the biggest steals in bidding. It’s a shame Tampa didn’t have the best bidding outside of him. Number 2: @vRustl17l | LW | $1mil I played with and against him in draft games the other night and wow, this kid’s got it. I don't know if he just suddenly got good or if someone’s playing on his account... @LG-McDonald get on that… Regardless, he’ll be on the top line with Moti, Pier, and Bo so he’s going to get his wins and points. Number 1: @SebQc97 | LW | $750k Seb has been one of the best contracts in the league since he got his 3S $500k bid in S10, and last season, he took his game to a whole new level going 21-5-1 with 80 points. He’ll be playing on a moderately weaker line now though so it’ll be interesting to see how he does in S13. If he has anywhere near a similar season, he could go for 10x his current cap hit next season in bidding. Final Remarks I’d like to apologize if this article doesn’t meet the usual quality of my articles. I’m currently dealing with something personal and had trouble finding the time to churn this one out. I’m also not very good at picking good contracts so there’s that as well. As always, thank you so very much for reading. I’ll be working on the analysis articles right after this one gets posted. Take care!
