Currently we have over twice as many forwards signed up than defense.  However, we only need 40% more forwards than defensemen.
We do have enough D to fill the NHL, but there's going to be an excess of forwards in the AHL.

Playing out of position in the AHL will be allowed, but if you want to improve your chances of a making it to the NHL, switching to D is a great way to do it.

The scouting games you have already played will still count towards your scouting requirement, so think about switching!

If you decide to switch, read the first post and post at this thread: http://www.leaguegaming.com/forums/showthread.php?185627-Season-15-Signup-Position-Change

1 thing to remember is that once we draft and you are on a team you're primary position is locked and there will be no changing until the off season.

OK - I have 2 questions on this:

    1. Is it possible for a NHL team to draft you based on your alternate position (for example I play C, but RD is my alternate)?
    2. If you are not drafted to the NHL, can you change your position while in the AHL prior to call-up?

Positions will be locked after you get drafted, your alternate has no real meaning anymore.

No, once the season start, your position is locked. You can play games as an ECU off position I think, but as a permanent callup, you keep your original position.

Seems to me like people are being a little forced to play a position that is not their first choice (me for example) without having any idea that they might have gotten drafted at their first choice position. I don't know why it would be a big deal to allow owners to have the ability to draft someone at their alternate position.

I understand you want to position lock so people do not get drafted to play defense when they are really a forward or put forward when they are really a goalie or defenseman rather than a forward but wouldn't you rather teams make sure they can produce 6 people rather than lock guys into one spot. Because I am a goalie that can play defense and forward if i really have to.....being good at the game in general is different than just being able to play one position and I just enjoy playing the game no matter where I play but I prefer goalie.....

Why would they draft you based on your alternate if you can only play your primary position?

If they draft me at my alternate - then I would play my alternate and be position locked into that.
If you are truly short D men and Goalies, this is what I believe to be an obvious solution. You probably have 100's of guys with alternate positions as D and G.
Once you run out of guys who have been drafted (or are good enough to be drafted) with D as their primary position, and you are short of D and G, and dozens of guys are left at F who have D or G as there alternate it would be pretty easy to allow owners to draft persons based on their alternate position.

The way I am reading here is forcing people to choose to play their second position by changing their original primary position without ever knowing if they would have been drafted at their original primary position. And then maybe not get drafted at D when they could possibly have been drafted at F.

For example, I have now changed to RD even though I am pretty sure I would likely get drafted at C. But I am not 100% sure and this is forcing me to take the cowards way out. Would sure make me a lot happier as a player if I knew I could be drafted at C or D (knowing of course that whatever position I am drafted at I am locked into for the season).

I'm sure that we have all played OTP with players that just want to play but select a position that they cannot play. i.e a defensmen spending all his time in the offensive end!!! Lol! i personally would prefer not drafting a player that is not going to be happy without playing their prefered(primary) position!

Doesn't this essentially make your secondary position irrelevant...why not make it so if a player is not comfortable playing another position they don't put down a secondary. If some has RW as primary and D or G at secondary it shows that they are willing to play either of those positions and most likely would not spend all their time in offensive zone as a defenseman.

I think this is IDEAL, you list primary and alternative, those who draft you select what position they draft you for and boom that's what your locked into, makes perfect sense and allows for a better, deeper draft I think. Its not like there is salary being involved so as the draft happens owners select the position in which they drafted the player for and the player is locked in.
