The Calder Memorial Trophy is an annual award given "to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League (NHL)." Before we start, I want to make sure everyone knows that no member of the committee was or will be allowed to vote for an award in which they are nominated. These are your 5 finalists for the Season 6 Calder Memorial Trophy. Edit: to clarify 2 things, the Community vote will count towards the total vote, which includes the votes of the Committee members. Also, for Strength of schedule, the lower the number, the tougher your schedule. If your SOS was a 7.8 (Conf) and a 15.2 (League), your average game played would be against the 8th place team in the conference, and 15th in the league as a whole _____________________________________________________________________________________ @Pelley_ LW, San Jose Sharks Overall Production 72P, 37G, 35A, +21, 2.77 PPG Vs. Playoff Teams 27P, 16G, 11A, +1, 2.45 PPG Vs. Nonplayoff Teams 45P, 21G, 24A, +20, 3.00 PPG Record 18-6-3 Strength of Schedule 8.74 (Conf), 17.00 (League) Team Performance 6th (Conf), 11th (League) Position LW Pelley came into the league with a top tier Ottawa team, but didn't really hit his stride until he was traded mid-season to San Jose. He proceeded to finish with 72 points, good for 2nd on his team and 16th in the league. He also picked up 18 wins while being the guy asked to drive the San Jose 2nd line. _____________________________________________________________________________________ @JPH_VeNoM LW, Vancouver Canucks Overall Production 68P, 36G, 32A, +11, 2.72 PPG Vs. Playoff Teams 43P, 24G, 19A, +3, 2.39 PPG Vs. Nonplayoff Teams 25P, 12G, 13A, +8, 3.57 PPG Record 17-8-2 Strength of Schedule 6.96 (Conf), 13.74 (League) Team Performance 10th (Conf), 19th (League) Position LW JPH is a guy from old gen that finally made his return this season. He played by far the hardest schedule of any skater, and managed to pot 36 goals this season between Montreal, Vegas and Vancouver. JPH started on the MTL top line after being drafted 3rd overall, before being moved to Vegas, and then Vancouver right at the deadline. Despite being on 3 different teams this season, he produced 68 points, and 17 wins. _____________________________________________________________________________________ @Faytal_Flow G, Los Angeles Kings Overall Production 82.3 SV%, 1.78 GAA, 8 SO Vs. Playoff Teams 80.5 SV%, 2.04 GAA, 6 SO Vs. Nonplayoff Teams 86.5 SV%, 1.26 GAA, 2 SO Record 36-14-4 Strength of Schedule 7.11 (Conf), 13.50 (League) Team Performance 4th (Conf), 5th (League) Position G Faytal played every single possible game he could've played for LA this season, playing 6 a week every single week. He faced the toughest schedule of anyone on this list, and backstopped a Kings team that almost nobody saw as a top tier team, to the 5th best record in the league. He put up 6 of his 8 shutouts vs playoff teams, and had a 29 save performance vs the Dallas Stars that saw him absolutely steal a game from them. He kept that momentum going and finished the season 2nd in the league in shutouts, 2nd in GAA (Min 40 games) and 3rd in save percentage (Min 40 games), as well as 1st in wins. _____________________________________________________________________________________ @Yoshi_swagger G, Detroit Red Wings Overall Production 84.6 SV%, 1.71 GAA, 8 SO Vs. Playoff Teams 82.3 SV%, 2.16 GAA, 2 SO Vs. Nonplayoff Teams 87.5 SV%, 1.25 GAA, 6 SO Record 29-8-8 Strength of Schedule 8.32 (Conf), 16.71 (League) Team Performance 3rd (Conf), 8th (League) Position G A 2nd round draft pick, Yoshi was another goalie to storm onto the scene in Season 6. After a fantastic debut season in the CHL, he followed it up by posting an astounding 84.6 save percentage in 45 games played, which was good for tops in the league amongst starters. He also finished tied for 2nd in the league in shutouts with 8, and was the top starter in terms of goals against average with a 1.71. He was the wall behind a Detroit team that finished with 108 points. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Edit: After looking back at previous seasons, we've determined that Bry's 17 NHL games played in season 4 disqualifies him from Calder Voting as he is no longer considered a rookie _____________________________________________________________________________________ @JonFromEarth LD, Colorado Avalanche Overall Production 17P, 2G, 15A, +40, 0.63 PPG, 111 TA Vs. Playoff Teams 9P, 1G, 8A, +19, 0.60 PPG, 57 TA Vs. Nonplayoff Teams 8P, 1G, 7A, +21, 0.67 PPG, 54 TA Record 19-5-3 Strength of Schedule 7.52 (Conf), 14.44 (League) Team Performance 5th (Conf), 6th (League) Position LD, RD Our last finalist, Jon came into the league with a lot of hype, but also a bit uncertainty of how he'd perform in the top league. He answered all of those doubts by posting a 19-5-3 record, and maintained almost the exact same production vs playoff teams that he put up vs non-playoff teams. He finished 16th in the league with a +40, and was a large part of the top scoring team in the league, from the back end. You can't score unless you have the puck, and his 111 takeaways were good for 4th in the league, no doubt helping his teams offense when he can take the puck away and quickly get it up the ice.
I don't know what kind of rules your using, but I played 17 games in Season 4, why am I even eligible? lol
I’m the one that pointed out to Claus that I should’ve been ineligible. In real life, you can only play a little less than 1/3 of any previous season. I played a little less than 2/3 of season 4. So easy to admit that I wasn’t eligible. Anyway, I don’t need any individual awards, I’m happy with the one I got already.
Yoshi, faytal, Jon, pelley, venom. I swear if u don't give the vezina the Calder like u did with the stupid selke shit a few seasons ago I'm gunna take my pocket square off.
Also, since it's not listed, he was 4-7-2 vs playoff teams, and 9-2-0 vs non-playoff teams. I know he's a very solid player though.
Yes he did, but the other 2 forwards both outscored him and produced more wins. We felt they were just more deserving of the award. That's no fault on him as a player, we just have to look at the numbers objectively.
thanks for the nomination and to everyone who votes for me, should be Yoshi. guys an absolute stud out there. #KamloopsProud
