The Vezina Trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League's goaltender who is "adjudged to be the best at this position". At the end of each season, the thirty-one NHL general managers vote to determine the winner. It is named in honor of Georges Vezina, goaltender of the Montreal Canadiens from 1910 until 1925, who died in 1926 of tuberculosis. The Trophy was first awarded after the 1926–27 NHL season and was awarded to the top goaltender. Season 31 I believe someone needs to check Smitty's thumbs for illegal substances because he ran the entire league all 9 weeks of the season. He tore up the LGHL GAA record by -0.14 with an impressive 1.26 GAA. His worst weekly Save% was an 84.1, while his worst weekly GAA average was 1.69 which would have been considered incredible NHL 18 stats through 9 weeks. Out of his 50 games, Smitty dominated and shut down every single line he played. Just over half of those games were against playoff teams (26) which can be considered one of the hardest schedules of all goalies this season. He not only put up exactly 17 wins against both playoff & non-playoff teams, he consistently put up an average save% of 87.25-89.02 & GAA average of 1.05-1.37. Out of 50 games this season, Smitty posted some of the most impressive statistics the LGHL has ever seen, including: - Highest GA in a single game was (4) Goals, happening on 2 separate occasions. - Posted at least 1 Shutout in All 9 weeks of Season 31. - In regulation time, Smitty allowed 1 goal or fewer in a Total of 40 games. - Had only 1 loss in 7 separate weeks. 3 of those weeks being 5-0-1. Advanced Statistics - (Out of 60 Goalies) Philadelphia Flyers - Philly scored 3.02 Goals per Game (8th) - Philly scored 3.68 Goals per Win (26th) - Philly scored 1.15 Goals per Loss (14th) - Philly scored 2.52 more Goals than Smitty allowed (18th) o S m i i t t y - Smitty allowed 0.90 Goals per Win (6th) - Smitty allowed 2.20 Goals per Loss (1st) - Smitty's Goalie Reliability Factor is -1.30 (7th) - Smitty received 10.5 shots per game (60th) (Written by @APsychicTaco) Season 31 After putting up three straight seasons of respectable numbers Rainz bumped his play up another notch in NHL 19 with a league record 87.6 save percentage on a fantastic Arizona Coyotes team. The highlight of his season was a 14-0-1 streak in the middle of a heated Pacific Division race. To get to a finalist position in the Vezina race you need to not only put up good numbers against playoff teams but absolutely crush the weaker opponents when you get the chance. And while Rainz went 14-3-4 with great SV% and GAA numbers he obliterated all fourteen non-playoff opponents with a 90.3 sv% and a 1.07 GAA with a 13-1 record. In the advanced stats Rainz is a mix of high's and lows. Lowest GA average per win among finalists (0.8) but also leads in highest GA average in losses (3.5). All in all a fantastic season for Legendz Rainz. Advanced Statistics - (Out of 60 Goalies) Arizona Coyotes - Arizona scored 3.51 Goals per Game (4th) - Arizona scored 4.00 Goals per Win (11th) - Arizona scored 1.78 Goals per Loss (9th) - Arizona scored 2.22 more Goals than LEG3NDz allowed (29th) LEG3NDz R41Nz - LEG3NDz allowed 0.80 Goals per Win (5th) - LEG3NDz allowed 3.50 Goals per Loss (37th) - LEG3NDz's Goalie Reliability Factor is -2.70 (51st) - LEG3NDz received 11.40 shots per game (55th) Season 31 Wall had an incredible season posting an 86.1 Sv% and a 1.90 GAA, a personal record. He finished the season 3rd overall in Wins with 33 in 46 games played. Although playing a great Anaheim team, Wall stood on his head allowing them to reach the season total of 120 points. Wall played a total of 21 playoff teams posting similar to his Season 31 average statistics. He faced an astonishing 682 shots this season allowing only 95 goals. In the majority of Wall's games, he put up a save percentage in the High 80's while facing up to 15 shots or more. One of the best goalies in the LGHL now, Wall is grinding and pushing to get the Mighty Ducks to the Stanley Cup. The largest amount of goals Wall allowed is (4) occurring in only separate occasions. Against Non-Playoff & Fringe-Playoff teams, Wall has carried a 20-2-3 Record. In those 25 games, Wall saved 86.54% of the shots and allowed only 1.82 goals per game. With a high intake of shots, this man is doing it all. He's posting outstanding numbers with the level of difficulty he is facing. There are very few goalies in NHL 19 that could compete with Wall if they were put in his shoes this season. Advanced Statistics - (Out of 60 Goalies) Anaheim Ducks - Anaheim scored 3.43 Goals per Game (5th) - Anaheim scored 4.12 Goals per Win (10th) - Anaheim scored 1.69 Goals per Loss (13th) - Anaheim scored 2.43 more Goals than Wall allowed (21st) I Wall x 31 I - Wall allowed 1.50 Goals per Win (44th) - Wall allowed 2.80 Goals per Loss (11th) - Wall's Goalie Reliability Factor is -1.30 (7th) - Wall received 14.80 shots per game (12th) (Written by @APsychicTaco) Season 31 After dominating the AHL for a couple of seasons Darcy Kuemper was finally given a look by a new owner Krawch and the Ottawa Senators and he continued to impress. In his first full season as a goalie in the LGHL he makes it into the Vezina finalist group with a fantastic 87 sv% and 1.67 GAA with some impressive advanced numbers that show how much of an effect he had on Ottawa making the playoffs. Darcy held his own in playoff opponent match-ups with a 86 sv% and 1.87 GAA (7-6-4 record) and as required from Vezina candidates demolished weaker teams, posting a 89% and 1.5 GAA on his way to a 13-3-2 record. In advanced metrics you can see a major difference compared to other finalists (and why he's a finalist himself). He received the lowest goal support at 2.16, the next nearest finalist was at 3.02 for goal support. He can also look to having the lowest goal support in both wins and losses out of the finalists. This is a statement season for Darcy and you can expect to see his name in the top goalie stats for seasons to come. Advanced Statistics - (Out of 60 Goalies) Ottawa Senators - Ottawa scored 2.16 Goals per Game (46th) - Ottawa scored 3.08 Goals per Win (49th) - Ottawa scored 1.00 Goals per Loss (57th) - Ottawa scored 2.08 more Goals than Darcy allowed (36th) Darcy Kuemper - Darcy allowed 1.00 Goals per Win (11th) - Darcy allowed 2.40 Goals per Loss (3rd) - Darcy's Goalie Reliability Factor is -1.40 (12th) - Darcy received 14.00 shots per game (24th)
