Good morning LG, Today is Canadas biggest push towards mental health. “Bell let’s talk day” For the jist of it, for every Snapchat filter used, Facebook Frame, text, call, tweet, Bell will donate 5 cents for mental health. For the most seriousness and the main reasoning behind this thread is because I want to talk a bit on the subject. Studies say 1/4th of the population lives with a mental health issue, while 1/5 teeanage highschoolers have a diagnosed mental issue (Anxiety, depression etc). Now behind a good cause becomes the very well daunting stigma than comes with the illness according to the Toronto Men’s Health Network (TMHN), Men simply don’t receive proper priorities when it comes to treatment and diagnostics. Coming from someone who’s dealt with it, it truly takes a lot of pride to come out and get help while other just need the simple support. We live in a very modernized world where there’s many believes mental health isn’t legit and people fake it. In 2009 there were 3,890 suicides in Canada, a rate of 11.5 per 100,000 people. While males averaged 3 suicides to females 1 (Stats. Can) Now the first step to ending stigma is beginning to recognize it as a serious issue. Linked is a website of ways to acknowledge somebody may need help. http://www.mentalhealthamerica.net/recognizing-warning-signs Now personally, as a gaming community as a whole, even as individuals we can all do better to strive to help someone who may be in need, this league, videos in general could be somebody’s escape. Sometimes it could be the difference between a simple “hello” that could make somebodies day. No bodies live deserves to be lost to illness without the courage to fight due to stigma. It’s okay to be upset, and most certainly okay to feel not okay. So hell, for the sake of two minutes of your day, not just today, but everyday could make the difference in somebodies life. Finally, if your still reading I personally support the cause and would love to extend my Snapchat gomarc58 to help fundraise the cause On Bell Let’s Talk Day, Bell will donate more towards mental health initiatives in Canada by contributing 5¢ for every applicable text, call, tweet, social media video view and use of our Facebook frame or Snapchat filter.“
Amazing write-up Marc, just like Brayden did prior. I love the initiative that people like you are taking, to help spread the word, and to end the stigma. I also know from personal experience how hard it can be to open up about things like this, which is why it's important to have people that you can talk to. <3
As someone who struggles with mental health issues on a daily basis having a support system or even someone to talk to is always important. Always here for everyone if they need a person to talk. PieR Talent#3589
