Everyone had Carolina as a contender to start the season and having a contender sneak in on a loss the last game of the season is probably underachieving based on regular season standards and predictions. Carolina really turned it around at the right time and and proving how good of a team they are but based on regular season standings i dont think they should be a finalist. Blues finished bottom the league last season and won the presidents Nj everyone had as a bottom feeder Min was a bubble team that was in a playoff position all season Mtl and Toronto were fighting for the presidents most of the season. Only possible snub i see is Colorado who made some great moves and had a great season that they will build off of with 2 lottery picks and returning contracts.
I don’t recall a team doing what Colorado has done having a contender and lottery picks for next season. Everyone was calling them idiots for the trades they made, including me, and we were wrong. I don’t see the other teams as doing anything special, they were just smart. Stl had the two obvious dps fall in their lap cause the other owners effed up. Toronto got zig handed to them, then went and got Marco, and had a west line for Leon. Mtl messed up bidding so had to bid on laine, who put them in the situation they had to dig out of, but they were still the ones that messed it up. Wags was just smart and he’s a nice guy so benefitted from getting friendly lines + playing in the central. I think they all had good seasons and were smart, but 98 did something pretty crazy. You are the obvious pick from this list, however. Edit: Carch should also be here.
There is like 13 people on the award committee, 98 & Luigi are even on the committee, I asked multiple times for votes and these were the top 5 on most lists. As well, I had Colorado on my list of finalists many others did not. This is a regular season award and statistically they did worse this season than the one prior
Why is the comparison between how they did this season to last season become a criteria for the award?
Yeah, this Jack Adams seems to be presented as a “Most Improved Owner” award. I’m in the same boat of not understanding why 98 isn’t at least nominated.
Actually seems like it’s more of an exceeding expectations award if we’re being honest. Which is kinda the same thing lol.
“The award is "owner adjudged to have contributed the most to his team's success" which the league voted on to be not the NHL+ahl point total which it use to be and not just the presidents winner which it was changed to but to the team who improved from the prior season and exceeded expectations based on the start of the season which was decided by everyone in the league who visited and voted/commented/discussed in the forums when it was posted and is asked and up for debate again every season when the awards committee is announced in said thread” - Lou
