LGHL Trade Tree: How the S31 New York Islanders changed 4 teams futures with ONE deal - See how the Isles helped 4 orgs except their own.. Hi, welcome to my new media series: LGHL Trade Trees. This was pretty much stolen from Sportsnet writer Steve Dangle, so don’t think I came up with it entirely. This will break down an original trade, and see how specific teams do from that trade. Pick order is based off of Tris’ lottery results, but may not be entirely accurate, so please bear with me. QUICK NOTE: Due to team swaps, two teams will be referenced. S31-S32 was the NEW YORK ISLANDERS. However, the team, and all of its assets moved to the COLORADO AVALANCHE for season 33. So keep that in mind. Without further ado, here is the original trade we’re talking about: January 29th, 2019. Just before the S32 NHL Entry Draft. NYI Trades: - 1st round pick(6th overall) - 4th round pick (113th overall) NJD Trades: - 1st round pick (8th overall) - 1st round pick (10th overall) - 1st round pick (20th overall) - 2nd round pick (40th overall) These two teams were on opposite ends of the spectrum when this trade was made. The New Jersey Devils finished last place in the super competitive Metropolitan division with a 27-48-7 record. The New York Islanders finished S31 with a 50-24-8 record and 3rd in the Metropolitan. While this trade didn’t have any roster players involved, it did have plenty of high draft picks, with the hopes that they can turn into bonafide NHLers. From the initial looks of this trade, it appears that NYI ran away with this trade, as they picked up 2 top 10 picks, another first, and a mid 2nd for only a top 10 pick and a 4th round pick. Let’s see how it shaped up for the Isles: NJD Drafted @xXDR3AMK1LL3RXx 6th overall and @xGetAcedx 57th overall NYI Drafted @P0RT0V 8th overall, @Showtime Troobs 10th overall, @Archon Assassin 20th overall and @patsway 40th overall. While NYI did pick up some quality players, the early edge seems to be with NJD. Dreamkiller eventually won the S32 Calder Memorial Trophy for the league's top rookie, and with some other moves, vaulted their team to second place in their division. The Islanders went the opposite way, finishing 14 in the Eastern Conference with 72 points. During this time, they sold off plenty to gather for the future. TheyThe first move they made was with P0RT0V, swinging a big deal with the Hurricanes: NYI trades @GeT MuTeDD & P0RT0V to CAR for 1st Round Pick (@SavyDaddy ), 1st Round Pick (@CH1l1X ), @B r i n d y x17 , 2nd Round Pick (@Shmyr ), 2nd Round Pick (@recon diety ) & @shoco123 . NYI was obviously selling for future assets, and got a huge haul for these 2 players. But it’s the second team to turn around off a NYI deal, as Carolina pushed into the final wildcard spot in the east, and made it to the conference finals in a fantastic Cinderella story. This season, they sit atop the Eastern Conference with 69 points in 45 games, with P0RT0V a key contributor in Carolina. GeT MuTeDD ended up taking management in LA and is having a good season there. With the picks that they got, SavyDaddy and recon diety are still in the CHL with no real AHL/NHL experience yet. Ch1l1x was the best asset acquired, as he is a key component of a red hot Colorado Eagles team in the AHL. Shoco123 was later traded along with @Record l77l to the Flyers late in season 32, for @l FreeStyle 7 l & @Geee Ohhh Deeee . Freestyle would leave the Islanders in season 32 and become the owner of the LA Kings. Shmyr was then traded to the KINGS with a 3rd round pick for @Ezreal in Season 33. Archon Assassin was traded 2 weeks later to Vancouver, along with @KFAR76 for @D Jay ll and @ll 7th ll . He would eventually be shipped to the NEW JERSEY DEVILS of all teams in S33, before being a piece in the major deal between Boston and Philadelphia, where 17 players were involved in the trade. Ll 7th ll would be the only notable asset back, and was flipped to the Buffalo Sabres before the S32 Draft, with a 1st Round Pick (@ReV Hellcat ), @Big Wet May , @l Chelios x24 l , 2nd Round Pick (@Jimnov ), 3rd Round Pick (@Caldsy ), 4th Round Pick (@MaaD LoR ), @Chipy-ox for @Jaw Ache , @Loochasaurus , @DaNextOne and l SSJ Bardock l. None of the players received are with the organization still, while Buffalo bolstered their organizational depth, with 2 top defensive prospects in Rev Hellcat and Jimnov. Caldsy has scored 50 points so far in the CHL, while MaaD LoR was removed a month ago. @Showtime Troobs was eventually traded to Washington, where he is currently 9-4-2. Patsway was traded to Edmonton for some AHL pieces, but now finds himself on the Stockton Heat, where he leads a dominant 13-2-0 line. There appears to be a pattern of teams here, so to recap, with this one trade in S31, the New York Islanders: - Started the turn around of the Devils organization, with 2 straight playoff appearances and a Calder Trophy winning Dman. The Devils also profited a FIRST ROUND PICK from the original trade when they acquired Archon Assassin from the Canucks. - Gave Carolina the pieces for a deep playoff run, and bolstered them into a contender for S33. - Had (at one point) BOTH free management contracts of the S33 LA Kings and one of their top 6 forwards. - Gave Buffalo two top defensive prospects for their AHL squad. - Contributed (partially) to one of the biggest trades in the LGHL to date. All with one trade. Let me know what trades you want to see next! Support the news team, like, comment & share your thoughts on their work
Should have included what the devils gave up to get 1st Round Pick and Archon Assassin, and look at team performance before and after.
Because i decided to take a break..even after i decided to take a break i stocked the cupboards full of assets for the new management, 20+ draft picks and lots of ahl assets
Overall nice disection of a tumultuous trade year for the Isles. @Showtime Troobs needs more clout in this though.
