LG Trend and Mental Health

I love LG. I’ve been around since its inception for the PS4 way back in season 1. I’ve had fantastic times and met a lot of wonderful people. Some of whom I have met in real life and others who I hope someday to meet. Others I have not gotten along with as swimmingly and I think that has to do with who I am as a person and in other cases who they are as people. That is completely fine and is typically the case for anyone as they ‘walk through life’. I am okay with that. However, what I cannot stand is when people have a blatant disregard for an individual’s inherent dignity and worth as a person: especially when it has implications for affecting someone’s mental health.


People’s mental health has been talked about a lot on this website. This is a great thing and I am happy to see open and honest communication and sincerity when these sorts of forum threads are created. This is because it not only builds a sense of community and connectedness, for groups of people who experience such states, but it also mitigates isolation for those who are suffering from loneliness, which is often a symptom of mental health issues such as anxiety and depression (just to name a few)


I will be transparent and admit that I am a healthcare professional and have frequently worked with those who have mental health issues. As a result, I am not ‘blind’ to the fact that I know much more than the average person in regards to such health issues. That being said, I feel I also have a responsibility to inform people of what I have recently experienced from some individual’s in the community over the past month and how it can affect one’s mental health particularly if they are experiencing anxiety, depression, or suicidality.


Approximately a month ago an individual (who will not be mentioned due to confidentiality reasons) purposely targeted and harassed me. What did they do exactly? They decided to rate nearly 90 of my posts all the way from season 1 to season 11 as “dumb”. I filed a formal complaint and had this individual banned for 6 months. I cannot state how happy I am to see the league following through with such prompt and responsible action. Sadly others others have now followed suit and continued to rate my posts “dumb”. Whether they are connected or not I cannot say definitely even if I have my suspicions. However, ultimately that is irrelevant. What is relevant is my concern that this has become not only become a trend on myself but that this is happening to other individuals on this website who potentially are experiencing mental health issues.


I want people to know that this type of targeting is never okay. We all come on to this website for various reasons but one thing we have in common is that we love playing NHL. We don’t come on here to be bullied, harassed, intimidated, aggravated or any other synonym you want to attach to that sentence.


My concern is that I am not the only person being targeted. And this type of targeting is never okay. But it is especially not welcomed when people have been open and honest about mental health issues on this website. Because with as many people who have been, there are undoubtedly others who have not spoken up and are potentially affected by such actions and these types of actions have the potential to lead an individual to complete suicide because of their fragile state.


I want people to take this point home. Next time you decide to rate an individual’s post I implore you to think of how you want to impact the community and the world. Do you want to do it in a positive manner or do you want to bring people down so that you can raise yourself up? Is it really worth that momentary satisfaction when it could impact an individual’s life so adversely and potentially yours as well? Seriously, I am talking about people taking their own life because of a choice you made. I am all about learning lessons. But that is a tough lesson that I’d rather you not learn after the fact.

why would you ban someone for rating a post come on its not that big of a deal

I appreciate the response. However, I'm talking about targetted actions where several posts are attacked. Not one. My apologies for not making that clear in the thread.

 

People do that to me all the time every time I post I get rated dumb just cuz I'm not liked by a lot of people and many times people have targetted all my post and gone back and it doesnt affect me i dont understand why a ban was neccesary

I am sorry people have to done that to you. My point isn't that it will affect everyone negatively with one rating. My point is that it is harassment when it continues, which is against the websites code of conduct. I'd also like people to learn from my experiences in the healthcare field and have people think before they act because if you were someone else the aftermath may not have been so positive.

 

I feel like every post you make in the forums has something to do with me or the la kings

 

Thats cause you only read the posts i make about that. I dont think ive made more than 2 or 3 posts/comments on that subject

 

Is this for real? So someone took the time to mark your posts as dumb. Get over it. If anything, you should be flattered they gave you the attention.

 

Im all for supporting mental health and its awareness, but if youre worried about a 15 year old rating ur opinion dumb than your charman ultra soft and should probably log off the site
