You thought awards were dead? Well you were wrong! This may be about 6 months late but rest assured things are alive and well and Season 9 awards will be finished by this weekend. Season 10 over the next week or so, and Season 11 should be right on time. If you think you can be an active and helpful member for the awards committee going forward please feel free to message myself or @JClaus33 we are always open to adding guys who are willing to put some work in, and can be as un-biased as possible when it comes to voting.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before we start, I want to make sure everyone knows that no member of the committee was or will be allowed to vote for an award in which they are nominated.

The Community Vote will be included in the final vote, along with the committee votes.

Also, for Strength of schedule, the lower the number, the tougher your schedule. If your SOS was a 7.8 (Conf) and a 15.2 (League), your average game played would be against the 8th place team in the conference, and 15th in the league as a whole. Really high=really poor SOS.

Another new thing we added for this year was Quality of Competition, thanks to @radicalapex we can quickly go through and find the average PR ranking of each players' opponents. PR being the little number next to your name in the roster tab.

On top of that, something new we introduced last year is SOS (Lines), for this we had people go through every single game for every single nominee, and determine at the time of that game, what line they were facing off against. We initially tested this with one person's games, and had 2 of us go through each game independently and write down what we thought each line was. We found that we agreed on every single game, so we went through the rest working together. Can it be considered subjective? Yes, but we have people doing this who are about as unbiased as you can get, and we felt like this measurement combined with the normal team-based SOS would paint a fuller picture.

We've also added Home and Away records, both this and the line based SOS were heavily requested, but if you guys think there are better ways, we are open to suggestions.

Finally, to explain a stat that always has some questions which we started including last year, from the thread where it was first added to the site; "Own End Efficiency (OEE): While many people who never get points claim to be “shutdown” defenders few are, this is your put up or shut up stat boys. Measuring the amount of time an opponent needs to score on average against you." Pretty straightforward, the higher the number, the better in zone defense you've been playing. It's how much zone time opponents need to score against you.

If you guys have any questions as to why someone was not included, we will be happy to answer and provide the numbers to back it up.

Also at the bottom we've included all of the stats and info we have for the finalists, please feel free to use them before you vote.

That shouldn't matter lol the Selke should be awarded to the best defensive forward, whether thats C, LW, or RW. Not saying Diamond is the best defensive player or anything, just saying because someone doesn't play C as a fwd they shouldn't be excluded.

Wingers arent defensive though really. Besides trapping, all they do is cover the point. Centre’s are actually playing the slot and reading plays. As well as defensive zone faceoffs. Which is why most of the time the Selke would go to a Centre.

You could maybe make an argument for a RW since they take over if the C takes a penalty or takes D if a dman takes a penalty but still, overall, wingers do very little defensively in the defensive zone except cover the points. Especially in Diamond’s case, LW is the least defensive responsibility in the game. You literally never have to play defense (hence why I play it lol).

I'm not disagreeing, all I was saying it's a poor reasoning to keep someone out of the voting bc they're not a center. The wingers help out a lot and make things easier for the center. For example, PTP doesn't play C on fwd anymore and he helped me out so much in ESHL, same with JD when he plays. Also, I'm not arguing this for myself or anything, I think Trev definitely deserves the selke imo but I'm pretty sure stat wise I had the best numbers for the selke. Kerslake (NjDevil) was another winger who had great numbers, he's actually known for being reliable defensively as a forward. Do I think I deserve the selke? No. All I'm trying to say it should not be limited to just centers when that isn't what the trophy is, it's for every forward, LW, C & RW.

It is for any forward, but for a winger to win it in LG, they'd have to have much better numbers than any other player. I know your GAA was super low from when I was looking through all the stats, but as a left winger that whole season you only had 54 takeaways, and when you did take face-offs you were below 50%.
I know that doesn't capture everything perfectly but it's hard to look at those numbers and say that as a LW you'd be considered one of the 5 best defensive forwards in the league for that season.

Kerslake is very solid defensively, but he was also either playing with me (12 games), or playing on west, which we all know has a pretty major impact on things. Then as a LW he 'only' had 70 takeaways and was 50% on his face-offs. It's just really tough to justify putting any LW there when they arent overwhelming anyone in the key defensive stats, and when the 5 on this list all had really really strong seasons defensively speaking.

When you replied to OGTreh saying diamond wasn't on the list bc he was a LW, it made me believe that he wasn't even considered because of his forward position, which is why I said something. I;m not arguing for myself or kerslake, was just using us two as examples off the top of my head

Congrats to the finalist ! I should be there for this season but i only played 7 games yet which doesnt qualified me I guess. I have almost the same number of TA than GA, have a lot of TA for a forward. Probably the winger with the best TA/GA ratio in LG. And 6-0-1 on a team that was last in East when I arrived. But there is big names still in the nominations :) Good luck to everyone !
