If you are a west coast NHL 20 6v6 player who has upgraded to Fiber Optic internet, please comment below, I have a few questions. Looking to get more information on it and see if it made a difference in connection. If anyone has knowledge on this feel free to give me more insight as well. I’m considering upgrading to it because in ESHL I run about 80 ping, I know a lot of that is location oriented. But, if I’m upgrading from 200 MB per month to 900+ I’d have to assume my connection (ping and or screen and skater delay) have to improve. I don’t see a point in upgrading it if it’s not noticeably better, if you are an east coast player and have fiber optic lmk below what you run on west ( ping wise ). I understand it differs for every player based on where they are living, but, anything helps. I’ve had a few players from around the community give me their personal opinion or experience with it, but have yet to find a west player with personal experience. Any information commented below would be very appreciated!

    Cheers,

    Doughty

It’s gonna help for sure i have fiber optic and on west connection my ping average 55 and i dont feel really delayed , i know like you said it depends on my location but before switching to fiber optic i was averaging 80-85 on west and on east i was at 12-13 but now i am at 4 ping with fiber optic .
I’d say you should do it !
My tongue says the same thing!

Have a good day dude !

P.S. sorry for my broken english ...

I'm in Vancouver with Telus 300/300 fibre and get 60 to central, 68 to one of the east servers, and 75 to the other east server (give or take). Ping bar is completely flat 95% of the time with 1-2ms jumps once in a while.

From what I understand, I could get 1000/1000 fibre and it wouldn't improve my ping, just my speeds. If cost is an issue I'd recommend just getting the cheapest fibre option based on that.

Not west coast here but maybe check into how the isp you want to go with connects the fiber to your place. Sometimes it's right at your house and you get the speeds they promise, but sometimes its like a block away and they run copper the rest and your speeds are not as high as advertised (still faster than copper). Things to look into at least before you upgrade.

I upgraded from the old copper lines to fiber earlier this year and my ping dropped by about 4-5ms on central and east servers, my connection also seemed more stable. Not a huge difference. Like Eamonn said, as long as you have the fiber optic line it doesn't matter what your download/upload is assuming you aren't downloading tons of stuff while playing.

fibre is always the best option...All of the lines are new and able to handle a lot more than anything cable has to offer.

Cable connects to fiber optic at some point.

It depends on how your connection to the fiber is.

Run a trace route to ea servers to see where the latency is currently.

Even at the speed of light there is always latency. It is physics

    Very west coast here....

Went from 25/5 dwn and up to 100/50 dwn up to now 750/750 on fibre

my ping was 95 on east @ 25, 92 on east @100 and now sits about 87.

Stability in my connection hasnt changed

But my local connection for West Vs or HUT games has gotten significantly better if that matters to you.

Ultimately if you are just upgrading for NHL then it isnt worth it Doughty, but if you PC game and use a TB+ in data near every month then yeah i think it is worth.

What is carbon fibre? Whatever it is I’m sure us here in Nunavut will never get it, we about the lagg life and robbing liquor stores. #ustoleourland #westoleurliqour

edmonton here. was pretty excited when i was one of the first areas to receive it a couple years ago. Unfortunately, while the green line almost never dips, the ping itself didnt lower much. If it was fibre all the way from your house to the server sure, but soon as it leaves the fibre area it gets screwed.

was very stable though, so for consistency it "feels" smoother, and drops the ping a little (under 5). I also feel like Telus is horrible in general with the routing on their isp and (shaw) is typically better from gaming (at least here).

Im east and previously had 100 ms speeds, then I upgraded to fiber for 1000 ms. I didn't get any change in my ping, the only difference for me is way faster download speeds.

What's fun is that 1/4 of the nhl players have a connection of 30 mb, which is insufficient, resulting in a shift of speed. To know who is poor, make a traceroute with the IP of the players.
