Instead of lying and saying “AHL success is taken into consideration”, just say whatever NHL team won the President's trophy also wins the Jack Adams award.

 

How was KB not Unanimous for Jack Adams!? It wasn't even close... and he went 10-1-2 before having connection issues.

Still waiting for an explanation on the Jack Adams... unless I am missing something? Would love to understand how y’all thought someone who’s AHL team MISSED playoffs was a better choice.

I've been told that the majority of the awards committee didn't value AHL success and valued first time owner winning the president's trophy more.

 

Lafleur didn't deserved it, only crushed the whole league by 15pts. 70 wins season needed to be legit. C'mon guys...

 

His NHL team was great... there is no denying that. In the award criteria it says AHL success should also be taken into consideration. By voting for LaFleur you are rewarding owners for stacking their NHL team and being ok with their AHL team missing playoffs... KB built two cup contenders on both levels, it should have been a unanimous vote and it’s a shame because I thought all the other winners were pretty on point

 

So you actually think that he would have been a better owner if he downgraded his cup contender team to upgraded his AHL team ? That's your point actually. He could have traded TB players, having a smaller edge NHL and improved the AHL, but this makes no sense. AHL perfomances should be considered but not that highly, maybe just as a tie breaker idk, it's still a NHL award. I think both probably have been considered, but EDM is far to be a no brainer, TB season was probably in the top best seasons of lg all-time, that's a legit choice

 

Edmonton and Tampa Bay were both fighting for the President’s Trophy up until Week 7... they finished stronger and had a hell of a season. So with knowing we were right there with them the majority of the season, how are you going to ignore the fact that Syracuse went 36-37-9 (81 points) while Bakersfield went 60-19-3 (123 points)... 42 point difference ain’t enough of a tiebreaker!? Tampa Bay didn’t need to give up any players, but you have draft picks to help with getting your AHL team 2 guys that can help make a playoff push. If Jack Adams is only a NHL award, take out the verbiage that AHL teams should be taken into consideration and give it to the Owner who wins the President’s Trophy then.

 

Fighting is a big word tho, if i'm not wrong i think TB literally been 1st overall from week 1 to final week. Anyway my prob isn't that you guys think EDM should have won it, my prob is that you guys think it's a no brainer, and only because of AHL performances... While it's clearly debatable.

 

I can tell you personally, for me my viewpoint is closer to KB and Coach. I was not able to vote for this award since I was up for it, but if I were able to, I would've voted for KB because I highly value having a strong AHL team as well. However, your point is exactly what @Desjy99 told me when I asked why they thought it should be Lafleur's award this season, and it's a fair way of thinking. So for him personally as an owner, he knows he never did a ton with/for his AHL so even when they did well he didn't feel it was his success.

On the other hand, as someone who invests a lot into their AHL I personally think owners should be rewarded when their AHL team does really well as it should be a reflection of them.

I don't fully agree with Desjy's way of thinking here but I also can't say my way is right, and his is wrong. Both are fair ways of looking at it.

Tampa was dominant from start to finish last season, with a team I don't think many expected to even come close to finishing as high as they did.

At the end of the day both guys I think were deserving, and even though Lafleur wouldn't have been my choice, it shouldnt take away from the great job he did and the great season his team had.

 

Maybe you guys should just split it and make the jack adams for NHL and another trophy for AHL performances, it would make all this much more clear
