So we have all experienced the epic force passes that go right through your d man even when you make a great read and are squared up with vision control. I've even had passes go through me as a defensive d man with HOCKEY IQ and DEF AWARENESS on so... EA has let this happen so that there isn't a huge skill gap that way they don't lose bad players. AKA repeat customers.

With that being said, what's the best D-Build to stop these forces? Or is it too far gone and we just have to deal with playing body and manually laying down in passing lanes?

For reference, my current D-Build is:

TWD 6'0 201 Def Awareness 2, Core Bal 2, Back Skate.

    Thoughts?

You're going to want to run something with 90+ defensive awareness.

Lately I have been running 6'2" 214 Grinder with Hockey IQ / Brute Strength / whatever preference your red perk is.

However it comes down to preference and how you play. My personal opinion is that PMD is too suspect defensively and Grinder can do what TWD does but better. However I am sure there are others that will have different opinions on what does and does not work for them.

    Hope that helps

Personnally, I think the best way to cut that is you need to learn to anticipating the play well and stick the player who will receive the puck to prevent it from receiving it. If you stay between two zones, most of the time the puck will pass through you.

Another tip, try to place your player in the right angle to cut the pass, but yeah sometime that shit Happens but not often enough to prevent me of to use the speed and talent of my PMD. My style is Stay at home and it doesn't stop me from being defensive

I Play PMD 6p1 170 or 6p2 176 With Core Balance, Heavy Hitter 2 and Stick Defense.

Just face away from the puck, seems to work for most people.

Your ability to intercept passes is influenced by defensive awareness. And it's also influenced by the speed of the pass and the time you have to react. So you want to give yourself as much time as possible to react to the puck.

If you are covering a guy in the slot, you want to stand just barely closer to the puck than he is, in order to give yourself enough time to react. If you are way up the line, like right between the passer and the receiver, you will have less time and it could go through you.

Honestly Clammer, I dont think the attributes are accurately represented in the gameplay. Obviously stay away from sniper, dangler and ridiculous builds like that for D. But you when you get to Grinder, TWD, DD, the D-awareness is pretty close between the 3 that you may not see an impact. And no matter which build you choose, the puck will always go through you. That's just one of the many inconsistencies of NHL 20. Thats why odd man rushes can be hard to defend, because you cant really play man on man, you have to be somewhat in a passing lane, cant give a guy too much space to walk in, but also have to cover the pass. Best way to play imo is having good body position, bumping guys and getting in their faces in front of the net, tying up sticks and prevent them from getting too involved in the play. You're right, you can be in perfect position where any player with a brain would pick off the pass but your player doesn't, yet a sniper can pick off a breakout pass on the backhand with his back turned in the neutral zone.. (which they said they got rid of or reduced). I'll get slashing calls for perfect stick lifts, where his stick goes up and no slashing animations where the opposing player shakes his glove. My friends and I cant edit our jerseys in our club because it freezes when we save. There's still good goals when opposing players run the goalie over. There's interference calls for cleanly hitting the puck carrier but happen to bump another opposing player who's next to the puck carrier. There's interference calls for tying up opposing players sticks anywhere behind or even next to the net you're protecting. Has NHL addressed any of this? No. And they wont. Just like they haven't for months now. And pucks will continue to go through you and cause frustration. The game doesn't fully represent hockey and its rules. If you force the puck enough its gonna get through. Best you can do is have good team defense and limit those opportunities for the opposing team.

    Best of luck Clammer McDavid.

Stats don't mean shit, just pray to Rammer that you will get a good intercept animation. Its all RNG even if you in perfect position. You can have 2 guys in perfect position taking away the pass and other team can still force it through both of them sometimes (pretty sure interceptions gets nerfed when on PK too).

According to ea nhl devs, it's used as a multiplier towards defensive traits. So yes, it does do something.

Personally I just use grinder with def minded and brute strength. My def awareness is over 90 and I dont really notice the pick getting forced through me at all really aslong as I'm far enough away from the passer. Also side note, bumping players in the slot helps out with people forcing it nonstop into the slot. Cough @goatville gaming cough
