Wingels' S38 Draft Rankings

Well, here we are. I told myself I wouldn’t do any of these, but wanted to test out some numbers, so here is my draft rankings for Season 38. If you haven’t seen my rankings before, here is some previous ones:

This year I think there is negative buzz to any draft prospects unlike other years, so I don’t really need to be pick and choosy about players. As well, this season EA introduced some new stats being tracked, which opened the door for me to revamp all of my statistics/rating systems for the upcoming seasons.

Here’s how the system works:

Spoiler: WIN Rating Explanation

WIN Rating was designed as a one-in-all stat that can be used to determine a player’s performance strictly through stats. The rating uses many stats found in NHL and compares to how the player compares to the “average” player in said stat. Some comparisons/inspiration for the system could be WAR/GAR found in real life hockey, or HLTV Rating found in CSGO Esports. You may have seen variations of this in my “ELO Ratings” found on LeagueGaming previously.


An average player will come out to a 1.00 rating in the system. A player performing above average will have a rating above 1.00 (1.01+), and a below average performance will be below a 1.00. (0.99-)


The system is calculated as follows:




Some stats are weighted heavier than others, with things like Scoring Factor and PTS/GM having more value than something like Shots/GM. Your individual performance may also be hindered by the level at which your team/line is playing at, but there will always be standouts on teams.

For the prospects I used all 3 leagues’ stats for each player. While not alot had upper league stats to go off of, there were some standouts. Also, I was able to accurately use esports stats from the past 2 major events in the rankings, with those stats receiving slight boosts due to a higher level of competition. Note that none of these Ratings were shifted to reflect there number in accordance to a LGNHL level player, as I would like more data to find a solid equivalency multiplier.

If you go by numbers then yeah your list makes sense. Some of those guys scrub hunted to a T.

I agree with @mikheyevv 65 that @Date Mist needs to be up there.

He won the mem. Often goalies can get carried but from watching the playoffs he was unreal.

At the end of the day. Personal stats vs actually seeing these guys play.

Maybe NHL guys need to actually watch prospects play to actually understand who's good and who's not.
