Just wanted to say I agree with the rant. AHL is in a weird limbo where some orgs use NHL assets to prop up their AHL team while others have CHL managers building CHL teams and further still more owners treat their AHL as extra resources to callup and trade to improve their NHL teams.

AHL really needs more media like this. I remember my season in the C and their were weekly shows, podcasts you name it. Great write up bossy.

And this can be said about NHL teams as well. Every year summer season's bidding is horrible. People complain and nobody comes up with any good solution? Why? Cause the system is good the way it is. The problem is, the lack of interest in doing management, which leads to the lack of interest in the league because of fear of ending up on a poorly managed team. Happens at every level of LG. Signups were as high as they have ever been in the past couple years, yet people conplain because of the lack of depth.

The problem isn't that there isn't enough talent, the problem is the boomers that have been around for years are too lazy to look for the new blood and throw the towel cause the other boomers they used to bid on are now grown men with little to no time to play video games on a schedule.

Then we talk about NHL hurting or helping their AHL, again if we had more competent managers up there, there wouldn't be as many issues down here or even in the C. It's a Domino effect that needs to stay anyways because of the ECU system which is what allows this league to be what it is.

You guys can pinpoint the problems all you want, I haven't seen 1 good solution that has more "pros" than "cons"

The problem is it takes time and effort for even the most rawly skilled players to develop. Very rarely does a guy hit the C and tear it up then tear it up instantly in the N and even in the A most top C guys take time to do well in the A. If a guy jumps from the C to the N and is tearing it up it almost exclusively comes down to the fact that the guy was already playing Esports with strong players / teams.

Most guys in the N or even the A do not want to spend their time developing talent. Its a frustrating process and its not like you get them on 3 or 6 season conties. You get them 1 or 2 seasons for the most part and it takes the better part of a full season for most of them to adapt. Most players aren't loyal to their owners / teams and just want to move on up. So while you may have a committed and motivated owner on a lesser team as soon as that player gets to be valuable they often demand or force the owners hand in trading them.

It happens all the time where you get a guy coming out of the C who had immaculate stats. Often these guys have spectacular hands but don't read the game particularly well. Then you have other guys who have good game reading skills but have a large flaw in their game be it they lack dzone ability, they are poor at converting high value chances, they lack zone entry ability, they move the puck too slow, they have trouble under a forecheck, they don't hold position in a PK well creating gaps and holes. Most of these guys frankly have multiple holes in their games. Even most veteran AHL guys have some holes though they tend to be less pronounced.

Almost every single player who comes up from the C 99.99% that aren't actually elite esports guys are going to have to plug a number of holes in their game that weren't readily apparent when they were tearing up the C. In the N these players who get brought up too quickly end up getting destroyed and lose confidence in their game.

If you had longer control of a player development makes more sense. I wouldn't mind seeing draft contracts being extended to 3 or 4 seasons though I'm sure I'll get some hate for saying that. I'm one of the few have always been loyal to my owners in good times and bad. I spent years playing on the same 2 owners NHL teams on resigns despite both owners teams typically being average at best and I am happy I did that. I made actually lasting friendships by doing so as I got to know a group of guys really well.

TLDR - I'd like to see draft contracts being extended to 3-4 seasons.

Welp. That will never happen. Rare are the orgs that keep the same management for that long anyways. Imagine an eSport guy on a 2M contract for 4 seasons. Ggs.

I think they need an overhaul of how the free contracts are distributed. The owners contract should be:

    1. Their last contract in bidding (if new to the N it should be 500k). It can also be an average of previous contracts as a whole. This way it attracts lesser skilled players to own.

    2. Each team gets two free contracts. GM & AGM.
