Week 2 FUN FACTS 1) (This weeks FAT FACT) The Iowa Wild are tearing a hole in the sky: League leading 38 pts (17-3-4) 4 Shutouts 4 games they held the other team to only 1 goal 9-0-1 Home Record 8-1-4 in 1 goal games (That's 20/26 pts in 1 goal games) I'm liking what I'm seeing here. A lot of positive underlying #'s but they are barely above water in TOAD at 4:53 and barely above water for shot differential at +9. The reason I bring those two facts up is that while they are the 6th least penalized team in the league, their PK sucks when they are on it, killing only 64.7% of them (Ranked 27th). All it takes is for a couple guys to have off weeks and we might see that beautiful 1gg record go downhill. With that being said, there is a lot more room for optimism as they are ranked 5th in the league in goal differential with a +20. Strong team here that have gotten more than half their pts in one goal games which can pay dividends come playoff time. We'll see if they can keep it up. 2) @l xMavaria l continues to lead the league in points. 6-2 record with 19g 15a and a +16 stat line. He's shot the puck only 30 times in 8 games. Those 30 shots don't even crack the top 100 for SOG. Words for the wise, don't let this man shoot, because his 63.3% shooting is scary AF. One would think, or at least hope he's human and that % will go down as the season goes on, but for 2 weeks in the books he's on pace for a very prolific season. 3) The Henderson Silver Knights just went from having one of the worst week 1 performances in the league to wrecking almost everyone they faced week 2 going 11-1 to catapult them into 3rd in their division. That's a huge bounce back week for them, nabbing 3 shutouts and ONLY giving up 26 goals in 12 games. 4) Giveaways for defenseman can be detrimental and change the outcome of any given game. Here are the top 3 Defenseman per side who have the FEWEST in the league along with their giveaway / takeaway ratio. Killing 17 of 18 good for 94.4%! As a team they have given up the 6th fewest pims in the league. 6) There haven't been many positives for the Bridgeport Islanders after this week, but one thing is for sure. While you may leave the ice with a win, you are heading straight to the ice bath. League leading 399 hits through 2 weeks is good for #1 in the league and something they seem to pride themselves in. Hopefully they can start winning some games to make things more interesting as the season progresses. 7) 7 of the last 10 Calder Champions were top 5 in TOAD. Here are the current top 5: IceHogs 58:47 Senators 39:54 Canucks 31:11 Thunderbirds 30:40 Condors 24:07 8) It's no surprise that 3 of the teams above also are top 5 in faceoffs, which leads to more ozone time and less time in your own zone. Here are the top 5 teams winning the battles at the dot: Thunderbirds 55.9% Gulls 54.2% Penguins 53.7% Canucks 53.1% Condors 52.9% 9) @Him Soup is a checking machine. #1 in hits with 102 through 8 games. Almost 13 hits per game, and he's a forward. 10) @DailyDietCoke put up an incredible goalie post so I didn't spend too much time on goalies this week. But one fact I do like is seeing @LeBl0ndQc TOI at 1116:57......that's a ton of minutes for 2 weeks and he's still posting a .831 sv% That's all for this week! Thanks for reading!
