For all of you guys Especially south Florida, be safe. You probably getting some heavy wind and rain right now, so be careful.
Yea i know theres a few of you guys in the Tampa area (striker, xboxjon) where Charlie is supposed to hit so stay safe.
Yeah, I live about 50 miles north east from Tampa, and we are worried about everything as well. Most people (1.5 million) have left the danger areas, so everyone who was smart should be safe. But even us people in the middle area are worred as well. This should be a big one.
I'm 15-20miles from the water, NE from the actual bay.. but the paths they are showing go directly over my head. I talked to Raptor this morning, he's about 2 miles off the water and right next to a manditory evaculation zone, but is going to stick it out. Striker is north of Tampa, in Spring Hill, so he's a bit west of the path of the eye, but is close to the coast. I'm sure you'll see us all check back in when we get power back up (this weekend, next weekend, who knows).
Yeah. Just a mile west of me there's a mandatory evacuation. Im prepared. Im riding out the storm. My boys are in a safe place which is important.
Yeah, i'm from Louisiana so I know what is like to ride one out. When Andrew hit about 10 years ago (damn im getting old :? ) I can remember getting the batteries, flashlights, candles, water, bread, crackers, water, and all that other stuff. Listening to that wind kick up stuff all around, rain hitting the house and everynow and then peeking out the window to see what it looked like. I know you suppose to stay away from windows but hell, call me curious george. Then when its all over getting in the car and riding around to look at all of the damage. Then thanking God for keeping you and your family safe through it all.
A friend of my family was on a cruise and just called yesterday and the boat was docking in Key West. I hope that they're ok, no one has heard from them since yesterday
Good news (at least for us that were in it's direct path this morning). It looks like it's going to make landfall near Fort Myers now, south of downtown Tampa. They are still telling us Cat. 2 winds inland where Babolat and myself would be, which will probably cause a ton of damage, but hopefully not a direct hit by the eye anymore.
My sister is in the Air Force stationed down in Fort Walton Beach.....she said they were doing some evacs around the area but people that live on the base have to stay. So she was kinda scared but I think it will all be good.
Looks like it missed us Tampa guys, striker and raptor completely. Me and Babolat will still get some strong winds and rain since we're more inland, but nothing catastrophic (maybe a short power outage, and some newly planted trees downed). It spared us at the expense of the Fort Myers area and mostly rural central Florida. They're saying it's going to head back into the Atlantic though and slam into the Carolinas though... you guys over there are due up next.
Here we go again.... Hurricane Frances is bearing down on Florida, this one's 2x bigger than Charlie three weeks ago. At least it's not aiming straight at Tampa this time around though, but anyone on the Atlantic side is going to be in the path (and we'll probably still get a load of damage on the gulf side too).
2 times the size, yes... not 2x as powerful though. Charlie was a category 4, and this one they are estimating as a category 5 (which is as high as they go, Andrew was a cat. 5 when it hit Miami in '92). The difference is all in wind speed (Cat 4 is 131-155mph, Cat 5 is 155+mph). Anything at a Cat 3 (111-130mph) or higher pretty much leaves everything fubar in it's path.
for all of you down there, better get some emergency stuffs, like radio and h20. hope no one will get hurt
Hopefully it'll vere(sp?) off and just come across the coast line or something instead of going right through the heart of Florida. Good luck to you guys down there.
That is just scary Jon. If I was down there, I would have peed myself already...many times, the house would already be flooded But when we moved to America, my dad had two options: Miami, Florida, or Orange County, California. Although earthquakes can happen in Miami as well, he chose to move out to socal and take the earthquake risk over all of the hurricane risks. Anyway, best of luck to you all...get some back up power so that you can play XBOX Live
Good luck to y'all in FLA. I'm hoping it takes a right back out to sea. I've been put on alert for disaster recovery of the MCI network if things go for the worst. Good luck you guys...batten down the hatches.
