Astronomers say Plut http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060824/ap_on_sc/planet_mutiny_12 An interesting read, and raised good points of what is a planet and what is a moon. I guess all our kids from this point on will be taught there is only 8 planets in our "solar system"
Was just about to make a thread on this. Here's the link I was going to use http://news.sympatico.msn.ctv.ca/To...60824/pluto_definition_060824&showbyline=True
About time!!!! By Pluto being recognized as a planet it was watering down the honor for the other celestial objects that can maintain their own unique orbit and a spherical shape.
In my books, we're the center and everything revolves around us.. Dont go too far in one direction are you'll fall off the end of the earth... It wont be long to everything we've been taught will be disproved..lol... Did anybody see that China and Russia are teaming up to send someone to Mars... Dang Commies!! FYI.. I finally feel old now. My church still has in the lobby a rotary telephone.. One girl needed to call her parents and looked at the phone.. and said, "how do you use it"...
Well, they just switched the guidelines on what it is to be a planet, so its not like we couldn't switch the guidelines to read: "A planet is a celestial body which has the capabilities for sustaining life forms." I am sure that would re-narrow down exactly what fits into "our" description of what a planet really is. What I want to know is why are we wasting our time arguing over such a petty thing as whether or not Pluto is a planet. It seems a bit ridiculous to argue over something that was discovered almost 80 years ago and whether or not we should give it the official title of a planet. But it is very interesting news and a good read.
Yeah they have been discussing if for several months now.. I am kind of suprised now there are only 8 planets
:!: Sheez, do we spend our money on some crappy things, or what?! One of these days we might want to look at our own planet and see how we can fix it..
I guess from now on the definition of a planet is it's orbiting pattern, Since Pluto lost its status due to it's irregularity's. The interesting thing is Jupiter has moons that orbit it that are 2x the size of earth, But of course they are "moons". I'd be curious to know how many moons/planets are really in our solar system. I guess we are lucky for what we spin around
