I posted this on another forums website, so my apologies if you find some things in it to be irrelevant to LG. Its my partial intake to the so called "war."

It's odd, every forums website I go to, people treat gaming systems as if they were their wives or something. I am more than happy to allow people to defend their country, to defend their religious beliefs, and heck even defend their sexual orientation even though I am anti-homosexual in almost every single way (just ask Isy about it).

But to defend a gaming system that does nothing more than to nurture your need for a hobby, well, its just plain silly. Whatever happened to the concept you get what you paid for, or how about, you like what you like.

Isy for instance, he likes being a multi-platform gamer. I would know, I've known him for a couple of years now (not personally). The man enjoys mixing it up with different systems every now and then, and at one point during the wait for the 360 the man wouldnt stop buying games.

I am the exact same way. I cannot stick with one system. I wanted to this generation to save costs, but 4 months into competition I find myself with a PS3 and 360. And you know what, despite me spending over $3000 right now in 16 months for gaming alone - I dont regret it (I'm throwing in my HDTV purchase as well). I go to college and work full time, so with what free time I do have I spend on games. I dont spend it on forums debating which system is better, or which system will come out on top (since predicting the future has yet to be.....well realistic). I spend the time actually playing the games and instead of debating their "greatness" - I keep playing.

Now I can understand, you may hype a game for months and come out disappointed. That was me and Halo 2 - I was thoroughly disappointed in the multiplayer aspect. But this is what you do to help out that disappointment. Instead of logging on to forums for hours and saying how much the game "sucks" and is "crap" - you instead either return the game for another, trade it in for another, sell it on the internet for money, or simply hush up and live with it. Now you are entitled to your opinion on a game - but thats exactly what it is - your opinion. In means nothing, or at least it should mean very little to one another. Everyone has different tastes. For example, GameSpot gave a low score to Small Arms for the XBLA. I personally think Small Arms is my favorite XBLA title, I'd give it a solid 8. My opinion and the GS reviewer's opinion differ.

As for this whole console war (now question, in order for it to be a war, didnt someone actually have to proclaim war on someone else? I mean Bush did it for Iraq - but since when the did the Sony government proclaim war on its competitors? Same with MS and Nintendo) - this "war" is a very good thing for the consumer. If it wasnt for competition, would we get the games we have today? Probably not. I cant simply say no because I cant predict what could have been. A consumer loves competition - because it gives them more than one choice. Look at monopolies - do they have good customer feedback? For the most part no. We as in the consumers should worry what game to buy next - not which system is "better?"

What makes a system better anyways? Is it the graphics chip? Is it the RAM? The Game library? What classifies which system is better? Every system differs on what it brings to the table. MS brings a great online service, Sony brings a variety of games (in terms of genre), Nintendo brings innovation. And what about Nintendo? Why are they never mentioned in this “war?” They are afterall a competitor. Sure, their system is technically inferior to that of the 360 and PS3 – but since when was Nintendo about high specs? Nintendo emphases where it once mattered most in the gaming industry – innovation. And with the Wii they have certainly brung innovation to a whole new level. Instead of bringing to the table games that were innovative by themselves, they created a system in which human interaction is key. My hat goes off to Nintendo. For one thing they have kept quiet in this so called “war.” You do not see them wasting our valued time in press events explaining how their product is better than the competitor like that of MS and Sony – but instead they show you what you are going to get within a few months on their system. Kudos Nintendo.

Freedom of choice is a great thing. Sure it has its limits sometimes on what exactly classifies a choice, but it certainly gives enough freedom. You can choose between ketchup and mustard on a hot dog; you can choose between sheep skin and latex on the type of condom you wear, you can choose between boxers and briefs for your preference of undergarments. So why is it that it seems you are not allowed to make a choice between getting a 360, PS3, or Wii? Why is it harder for people to not criticize those who bought a 360 and a PS3? Are we not allowed this freedom of choice anymore?

I chose to buy a PS3. But why blazsox why? WHY DID YOU WASTE YOUR MONEY? Well here is the thing, I did not waste my money. To waste is to dispose. Only an idiot would waste money. To throw away money, well, that’s just idiotic. That could’ve gone towards your 360, or your PS3, or your Wii. I chose to buy a PS3 to go alongside my 360 because I like to game. I like playing certain games I cant get on other systems. For instance, I love a lot of Sony’s first party titles. I love the Ratchet and Clank franchise, I loved Killzone’s debut from Guerrilla, I liked The Getaway from Team Soho (I believe they are Studio Liverpool now), and I am an Icognito nut (Twisted Metal anyone?).

But I also enjoy Halo, RalliSport, Crimson Skies, MechAssault, and a lot more franchises that can only be found on Microsoft’s platform. My only regret is that I don’t have a Wii. I would love to own one, and someday I hope to. God knows I cant go without my fix of Mario Tennis.

To constantly flame each other over personal preferences is simply….well, useless. You cant change people’s preferences. As much as I want to turn every gay man straight, I cant. So why is it such a sin to hear someone wanting a PS3 when you have the 360, or someone wanting a Wii when you think it’s a funny word for penis.

People people people, these are gaming systems. They don’t harm life, nor do they extend it. They simply give you something to do before you die. Yes, that’s all they are. It passes time until your death. Heck, I have been spending a lot of money the past two years. Granted I work my ass off for the cash – but I buy what I want, when I can afford it. Why? Because we all die eventually. So why should I worry about saving up all my paychecks when I wont last forever. Sure I keep a savings (usually $3000 is my minimum), but damnt if I have some spare cash I will spend it. Whether it be a game, movie, TV, or a one way ticket down to Australia for some kangaroo action – I will buy what I want, when I want, and for the reason I want.

Bottomline people, all gaming systems simply are, are things to do before you die. These competitors all have the same goal – to have you die happy.

I mean do you really want to walk up to a coffin to somebody who has a frown? I surely don’t – it only makes the corpse scarier.

I wasnt the one being flamed, this whole website was sony fanboys v. xbox fanboys. Quite hilarious actually, seeing grown men dispute about video game systems. And people think I'm lonely ;)

lol....good post and very true, although, I do disagree with some comments. I DO feel like I wasted 600 bucks plus tax on my PS3. There is nothing compelling about it at all. No games that are worth that much money....not even close. In addition, I also agree that competition is necessary, but pushing a 600 dollar system that has a very flawed online platform and ZERO games to play is not good for the gaming industry. It just proves to Sony that no matter what they do, people will buy their inferior product. Just my 2 cents. Bye!
