NHL 2K9 Information

EA sim I dont think so.. I played both 2k8 and 08 and 2k8 was much more sim like. In 2k8 you kind of have to cycle the puck around to get good chances while in 08 its one timers every 2 out of 3 shots

 

you have to cycle the puck around in 08 too. you have to change your strategy up because the defense learns what you do. You have to understand that i used to be a 2k fanboy. I didnt buy any hockey game unless it was 2k. well i tried rivals that one year but i regret that. the only thing arcadey about 08 is the hitting. 2k was pulling a madden on the diehard 2k fans for the last 2-3 years. this year might be better, who knows? until i play a demo or something i cant make that judgment.

 

All im saying the gameplay looks funny to me thats all, doesnt seem to look like it has that same feel the way NHL09 has. The way the players skate is def off..lol they look like they are getting ready to take a dump on the ice as they skate..lol and the hunchback goalies need to go sorry they dont look good at all. It looks like an arcade style hockey game to me. Im sure you 2k fans will be loving this game, but as far as trying to draw EA fans away with this product its not gonna happen, not even gonna be close. Wheres the Deking anyway in the game? All i saw was a bunch of slapshots. Again this is only MO.

 

I mean when you play otp games or 1 vs. 1 games all you see is one timers and it getting annoying. In 2k8 it seemed more people actually were cycling it around..I also had a game in the usmmer league where they did one timers alot and three times it went off a defender into the net that might be why I am angry right now. I am a fanboy of neither 2k or ea just like good games thats all.

 

see its just the people you play. you can do the same thing in 2k8 that you can do in 08. its just who you are playing and what their strategy is.

either way. like i said. this looks like the year i will think about getting a 2k game again. ill probably wait to play the demo first though. while with EA and the game they have put out starting with 07, i would buy the next 2-3 years without so much as seeing a screenshot because they have done amazing things for hockey games.

 

Ya im a fan of good games also, but its nice when they look, feel and sound right. This way when u lose at least you enjoy the game. Ill DL the demo and give it a shot maybe i came down too hard on this game...if i did i will def post an apology.

on another note. one thing i wish EA put into their game. back in 2k6 they had player switching like in basketball. you could hit something like lb and rb or some combo and it would put a button over every player on your team and you could hit that button to switch to them. i hate that in 08 you have to hope it goes to the player you want and sometimes it wont switch to that player at all.

I know some people get all caught on the graphics and that kind of stuff, and rightfully so, graphics and atmosphere helps sell the game. While the goalies might not look great in 2k8, they play amazingly. The stuff that the goalies do in 2k8 is crazy.

I judge a sports game arcadeness by the way it plays and not as much as how it looks. I find being on a five man powerplay and ripping howitzer slapshots facing the wrong way as arcadey. But hey, as long as it doesn't look arcadey, it must be sim...

I find parts of the skating strange from the 2k9 videos, but I also find things to be improved, like the turning when they skate, and the contact of players on the ice. I will judge it more after playing the demo or game, with slider tweaks. Most video game sites tend to show these games on the worst slider settings, which is not a problem with EA, because there are none.

I think 09 will be a solid game, but I need to play the game before I can make a judgement on it.

 

the wierd skating you are seeing is because the legs move completely independant of the torso and arms, making it look like the legs are the only thing pushing the body and there is no other fluid motion. Also the animation has a 90° bend at the knees making it looks as if they are skating while sitting in a chair, as well as a hard bend at the ankle. It's something thats been in the game since they changes engines for 2k4.
