    The Long Shot

    "November 2009"
Corporal of Horse Craig Harrison of the British Army records the longest shot on record. From 2,707 yards away the sharp shooter set his aim on two Taliban machine gunners who had his team pinned down and under heavy fire. Enemy forces had his Calvary pinned down and dead to rights with nowhere to go, no choices to make other than go out fighting with total acceptance of their fate. While the greedy face of certain death lurked around the corner - the team had come to terms with their inevitable demise. That was until someone decided to rise up and take his shot. Unwilling to accept seemingly inevitable defeat, Corporal Harrison decided that the seemingly impossible conditions were in fact the perfect conditions to take his shot and rewrite history, eclipsing the long shot record previously held by some other guy.

    "July 2016"
With all due respect to the armed forces around the world, the Grand Rapids Griffins attempt to turn Corporal Harrison into "some other guy". For all intents and purposes when the Griffins take on the Rockford Ice Hogs it will be "2707 + 1". The "Griffs" will be staring down the barrel looking at a seemingly far superior enemy. With heavy ammunition and some snipers of their own the Hogs will attempt to pin down the Griffins and keep them there until kill confirmation has been established.

With names like @Kraz18 , @ryno1354 . @ChyzNasty ,@letsgoblues74 , @Kamagraf ...hang on we've run out of ink, I don't think there will be any questions of who the superior force will be. But the frozen battlefield is a place where sometimes unlikely heroes emerge.

    "February 1980"
Still not convinced? February 22, 1980 - during a time of cold war between the United States and the USSR, a thought began to manifest. An idea that against all odds and with no chance of survival someone was going leave their mark and compose their own tune to the rhythm of victory. While the Red Army had the boys pinned down and staring death in it's icy, lifeless eyes someone had to take the shot. The Russians were dominating the United States and effectively having their way. Taking a 3-2 lead into the third before the US was able to put up a score settling goal. With the score tied US Captain Michael Eruzione took a wrist shot from just inside the blue line. The goal came on the shot the US needed in order to escape death and come out victorious against a superior enemy and seemingly impossible odds.

Well hop in your Delorian as we head back to the future. This Sunday in Rockford, revenge may be what the doctor orders. As the Griffins will attempt to scribe themselves into the history books. Next to names like Eruzione, Craig, O'Callahan and Brooks. Names like Baker, Schneider and McClanahan. When we look back years from now, will it be a story of how the superior rabid Hogs imposed their will and dominated an inferior army on their way to eternal glory? Or will it be a story of courage and valor as Lieutenant @riverdalestomp , Corporal @offroad6901 and private @Rukhshan_NHL lead their outfit against impossible odds and overcome "inevitable" death.

At this point we can only speculate, until time tells us how this story goes. But the million dollar question is, when the heavy machine gunners of the Rockford army are firing down on you. When they rain down with heavy thundering artillery and precision shooting. When death stares you in the face, and the natural reaction is to duck and run for cover....

....the only question will be, whose going to take the shot?
