I just want to give a shout-out to all the AHL career guys coming to the NHL this season. I know the NHL gets a bad rap. I for one do not think it's deserved. I think we can change the culture and I hope you all can help. For this league to correctly function, we need as many people as we can to sign up in the NHL first. The NHL is always in desperate need of guys to fill in their middle and back ends of the roster with great players. Fuck the trolls in the NHL. You vastly outnumber them and I hope to see you all in the NHL sometime or another.
I'm sure people will move up when the site hands out capital punishments to the kids who get on bad teams and quit, or refuse to play because their friend isn't on their team.
I for one have had 3 full seasons in the NHL in my career and all 3 have been failures. Now with that being said 2 of the 3 were at forward where I was not good enough to perform in the NHL as a forward. But my last recent season was at defense where I do think I could be maybe a 2nd pair or at the very least 3rd pair on a roster. The problem is that in the NHL when you have a losing season you are automatically viewed as "bad." At least in the AHL when I have a good season or a bad season I can somewhat enjoy it more then a I could a losing season in the NHL. So as you said the culture needs to be changed, when the culture is changed and Ahl players aren't viewed as "Ahl lifers" then perhaps myself and the rest of us would be willing to go to the NHL.
Let it be clear that Im not saying its bad to play in the AHL nor am I saying players who play in the AHL are bad. What is really tearing at the fabric is skipping NHL bidding and going AHL. When some NHL teams have worse players on their team compared to AHL teams then I think we have a bit of a problem.
That's mostly those owners not being competent enough to make good rosters but getting ownership over and over because nobody else wants to step up from the AHL and have top talent refusing to play for them like they currently do/used to do before the new system was put in. I'd move up and own, but that shit would be way too much of a headache to go up and just be a bottom team and have to build an AHL team in the NHL because nobody wants to play for an AHLer.
I don’t think that was the mantra of your post and I did not take it that way. Was just offering at least my opinion of why I don’t want to go to the nhl. To be fair those nhl teams that have teams that are worse than the ahl are on the owners. Half the other problem is that nhl owners can’t build good teams because the “elite” nhl players don’t wanna play for certai owners. So either you have to fix the ownership process or fix the “ego” players. You tell me which one of those is easier to fix?
Im not going to lie here. Its hard for even the good owners to find middle to back end players. Thats where we are running into problems. Its runs the prices up on everyone. Bad owners will be bad. Just how it is but we dont give them a whole lot of a chance to succeed.
When I get stuck on a bottom feeder in the AHL I might go back up to the NHL until then I'll stay where I belong.
No harm in quitting if things aren't going your way or you aren't having fun. Take a chance on the nhl, you'll possibly regret it since most of the community is scum unless they benefit from you, but hey, maybe you'll have fun and want to stay. cheers m8lads
I honestly had fun up in the NHL last season my first season on Defense, but i prefer the AHL not only cause the competition is easier but I made great friends down here and it' not biased on who gets to play as it' a friend' league up there. After my 2nd season deal on my contract I'm easily backing to AHL.
