ive again informed the hosting company, This is due to server or db speeds Just so you know, for reporting reasons i put on debugging at the bottom of each page. It will tell you the total time each page took to load. So just ignore this for now
oddly enough , in IE it seems ok ..... FF is slow as molasses even with all add on apps turned off...
the forum was basically down all day yesterday, The hosting company has not given me a reason why this happened or if it will happen again :s
It's been cold syrup or nothing for me the last few days. More often than not I get the 35 second timeout message. It's to the point where I copy and paste some of my longer posts into notepad for when I can actually get through with it. Right now it seems ok, but this has been a longtime trend now. Are there other options for a host/provider? I'm sure many of us would be willing to cough up a donation or even an annual donation to improve that situation. I suppose I shouldn't speak for anybody else and I will clarify. I for one would be willing to contribute a yearly donation if it means we can get fast, reliable, quality service. Good things are worth paying for. That said, I would want assurance that 100% of the donation would go toward the maintenance of the site and database. I would never want to see cash prizes awarded for league victories as I think it would attract the wrong kind of gamer. I would rather have a great time every league game and end up at the bottom of the barrel and never make the playoffs, than have to play against a "win at all costs for the money" kind of player. Competition is good, but it's about having a good time and enjoying the community. Rob, you and I have spoken about the subject, you know how I feel and where I stand. -Pete
Pete, I spoke with Tris10 at length yesterday about this very topic. My thoughts were we could attract the quality gamers by having a "pay" league. If you want in the Madden league you could pay $5-10 per season ($5 for shorter seasons), and that money would go towards paying for better hosting and scoreboard features. I think for the most part Tris10 has always wanted to keep the site free, but with hosting of ColdFusion sites you get what you pay for. I wouldn't want prize money either...like you said it attracts the wrong element to the site.
Rob and I discussed a per season fee system as well, and it's by far my least favorite option. At $5/10 per season an avid league gamer could quickly find him/herself having to spend more than they are willing to. Here's a different sort of idea: For each major sport league for just a single season, have no team rights retention and auction off the rights to a team for the season for donation/contribution money for site maintenance. I think team retention is a good thing, but I think the site can manage to run at least two seasons of each major sport title per year. Let members who have team rights retain their team rights for the first season of each new year. For the second season, hold an open auction for the teams to raise money to help maintain the site. -P
