Frank J. Selke race (Week 6 Edition)

The Frank J. Selke Trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League forward who demonstrates the most skill in the defensive component of the game.

I've come up with six rules to select the candidates on this list:

• 1. Be a center. The last 14 winners of the Frank J. Selke trophy are centers

• 2. Score at least 50 points by the end of the season (projection). Despite that the trophy reads "forward who demonstrates the most skill in the defensive component of the game" and not "best two-way forward", Selke voters no longer give this award to players who do not produce significant scoring

• 3. Win a lot of faceoffs. The last 10 winners of the Selke have at least 53.0% faceoff percentage

• 4. Maintain a good record

• 5. Have strong possession numbers. This will be represented by the Time on attack differential (TOAD) of each player

• 6. Have a good goals against average (GAA)

No man, you can make the voting public lol. It shows who voted for who, next time you make a poll at the bottom click (Display Votes Publicly) and itll show the numbers like you have it and then who actually clicked it, so you can see who voted for who and also if guys just got more votes bc their teammates voted for them

Great write up @ArchambauIt - I know they use some other stats like personal penalty kill % and some other metrics for the final award.

Thanks, I almost use the PK%, I didnt because I know in the NHL they mostly look at the time spent on the penalty kill over the PK%, but since we spend the whole game on the ice and can't use that as a metric I can see why the LG Award committee would use the PK% instead

 

Right, I think in the advanced stats on LG, it shows the persons penalty kill %. So it doesn't count PP goals against when the person is in the box.

Example - I am out for 10 PKs, and we kill 9 of them. I take one penalty and they score. The team would be 9 for 11 on PK, but my personal PK % will show 9 out of 10 at 90%. I know the stat is somewhere on LG.

Last in the league or you mean in the list of great players nominated? just having my name say 7th as u pointed out is an honor after a disaster of 2018 game..

also wanna point out my linemates are slammerrama and fiore, which in fact talent wise we would be considered last too..compared to most of these great players

You are not 7th in the league in these stats, you would be 6th or 7th in every category compared to these 6 players. There are other centers that have better stats than yours who I chose not to put in this list because, like you, they would be 5th,6th or 7th in most categories compared to the 6 players on this list.

And this is not the Bill Masterton Trophy, your performances in 18 dont matter.
