Clearly you take it seriously enough to sign up for an online video game league. How are you going to hate on someone for caring about stats or say someone takes it too seriously when you're doing the same.

Plus minus is a team stat and usually means jack shit when talking about the individual skill of a defenseman so that comment is false. In fact if a d had good TA/GA numbers on a shit team with a bad plus minus it shows the skill they have to be able to put up those good numbers still. If you have bad giveaway numbers with a good plus minus on a good team you fucking suck.

 

False. but at days end most people will habe more giveaways in any hockey league then takeaways. it is the nature of the game. more takeaways then giveaways could also mean they don't see the puck much. that they're carried by the rest of their team and donot do much. that they don't carry the puck or try to make plays. every stat could mean multiple things. every team and every player in different situations and every bounce and play on the puck varies. way to many variables. unless we start getting into advanced statistics if lg could do that. wed need something to quantify opponents, even strength play, special teams, offenaive starts and defensive starts, quality of your team mates and d partner, team puck possession and on and on. could get into this hard. I think the point is saying that these stats we can see on lg here with plus minus gives a general overview of a player for example. when in games the puck is in the other net more than his own etc.

 

I do not understand take always and giveaways... I mean if you give always, then on the other end somebody takes it away right?? Does not apply it seems

 

EA player summary is pretty broken and innaccurate a lot, even shots and points get skewed occasionally on it

 

Say you clear the puck during a PK...someone receives the puck at the other end. They don't get a takeaway but you are punished with a giveaway even though the clearing of the puck on a penalty kill was justified. I've noticed games where we are on penalty kill, my giveaways increase or are higher than the norm. And that's part of the stats within stats that @mikeydee1 is talking about.

Takeaways is more so bumping a player off the puck and gaining possession of it. Or a defender performing a nice stick lift and taking the puck away. Ever poked the puck away from someone multiple times, you get it, and then they take it right back. See where I'm going with this lol.
