General Manager of the Year Season 33 Finalists

The General Manager of the Year Award is awarded annually to the top National Hockey League general manager. The current title holder is Really Good Dad of the New Jersey Devils

To differentiate between the Jack Adams and Gm Of The Year Award the Committee decided that this award will be given to the team that was able to overcome the most obstacles and still put together a respectable season. The obstacles we were looking at were primarily exceeding expectations or remaining competitive with quits all while being a good leader for their team.


This Award was Implemented in Season 32 with the Recipient being Really Good Dad of the New Jersey Devils

Vancouver Canucks – @LAZYKIDZinGA @Fxwst @V 4 T T Y

Going into the season many expected Vancouver to be in the bottom half of the league sporting a goalie owner and relatively unproven forward in Fawst. Adding V4tty who has been a less than successful owner in the past in bidding as AGM left people around the league with plenty of questions regarding what this team can accomplish. I think its fair to say this team shut everyone up finishing 3rd in a very competitive Pacific Division with 100 points.


Winnipeg Jets - @x Neal x 18 x @Po1andsFinest @IB U C IK

The Jets assembled a great team right out of bidding. They checked all the boxes, strong forward group, above average defense and a more than reliable goalie. One of the key forwards in Bones was unavailable for the early portion of the season and they were still a very good team and then shit hit the fan. A core player unexpectedly quit leaving a giant hole on defense and another player requested a trade. Often times when this happens in a season it can result in a collapse but the management team in the Peg managed to overcome the obstacles without skipping a beat. They finished 2nd in the Central with 108 points.


Buffalo Sabres – @At43 @D4D USA @AEC Ghay Cav

After an extremely rough start to the season that saw the Sabres win only 7 games the first 4 weeks and losing their GM D4D USA stepped in and turned the ship around. The Sabres proved that it isn’t over until its over. There wasn’t one person in the league at week 4 that would have told you the Sabres would be a playoff team but boy did they prove everybody wrong. After week 4 the Sabres won 33 games including an 11 game winning streak and capturing the last Wild Card spot in the East with 99 points.


New Jersey Devils - @Really Good Dad @TheHeroicDuck @xXDR3AMK1LL3RXx

After a strong bidding many will tell you the Devils got worse which I wouldn’t argue with. A few too many trades a couple plans that backfired and then losing 3 core players in 1 week could have been the dagger in this teams season. The team as a whole stayed resilient and was able to use multiple picks gathered in early trades to compensate for the loss of those players. The Devils managed to battle through the season clinching the 3rd Division spot in the Metro in the last game of the season finishing with 97 points.


Arizona Coyotes - @l3l Ray l8l @Zarvek @Newhook x l18l

The Coyotes were a team many expected to be a contender with a very respectable management team and a few core pieces. Somewhere along the line things got tough and they decided it would be the best option to start retooling for next season while remaining competitive and they did a masterful job at that collecting 4 1st round picks and a few good multi season contracts all while being able to finish with the last wildcard spot in the West with 96 points.



Honorable Mentions-


Philadelphia Flyers – @JClaus33 @cj142 @Chriz

After a strategy in bidding backfired the trickle effect saw Philly be a bottom team in the east for a stretch. After a few great moves around deadline they were able to claw their way back into playoff contention only to fall short in the last game of the season.


Colorado Avalanche – @GRITTY SAVES @I Risto I @Belial I19I

Much like Vancouver this was a team that people looked at and had very low expectations for. They managed to be in the playoff hunt nearly all season but being the last team out in the west.

Edmonton most likely will be a Jack Adams Finalist which will be based more on Team Success, Bidding, Trades, Management Success.
