Rock band 2 is the way to go in my opinion. Notes are easier to see. the soundtrack is great. I love that the audience starts singing in rock band. huge amount of downloadable content already. Rock band 2 has a huge fan base. I dont know how big GHWT is since i havent played that since the week i got it.

For me it is a simple choice for RB2.

I'd say Rock Band 2. I play it all the time and it is definitely the better of the 2. GHWT is pretty good for drums, but the timing window for playing guitar is just way to large. It didn't feel like I was actually playing the song.

    My Choice= RB2

Yeah, after having played it today I have a feeling this is the kind of game I'm looking for...one with lasting appeal that I can bust out and play whenever...however far down the road. Just hope I'll be able to get a warranty on the disc, because my xbox chews up discs like nobody's business. Thanks for all the recommendations too. After playing both myself (and although GHWT did have some good songs) I feel RB2 is ultimately the way to go.

The studio is alright, but I found myself bored of it after a few songs.

However I never did get too in depth with the studio, never even took my songs into GHMix or anything

I've downloaded a few songs from studio but didn't enjoy it for more then 10 minutes. The sound qlty is reduced on all the songs plus there is no vocals. How can indy bands use this as a tool if there is no vocals and the sound qlty sounds terrible?

I dont think this feature is the "ground breaking end all feature" it was touted to be

Also if you've seen any of the end-of-year awards for 2008 (ie spike, ign, gamespot ect), everyone one i've seen for "Best music game" has RB2 ahead of GH:WT.

not only is it ahead of GHWT, for best sound track it was like two spots ahead of it. singstar or Lips ended up getting runner up. (might of been a different category but somewhere it was 2 or 3 spots below)

GHWT is kind of disappointing :(

Just heard GHWT had the better instruments.. And the idea of adding songs was what I was looking for.. I thought it might be alittle raw of an option to be using ..

I am on my 3rd warranty claim on the drums for GHWT - these were busted open inside the box.

RB2, however if all you want to do is play drums, GH isn't so bad. All I basically am doing now is playing Metallica's Death Magnetic on the Ion Drum Kit.
