Recognizing Defensive D

Here @Slo_Mobius I made this one just for you. I got to tweaking around with my overall Grade stat I do for each player as well as their PER (player efficiency rate) and I think I came up with the kind of stat you are looking for that really shows who has been the most active D wise while not necessarily getting the best offensive numbers.

What I did was I took my overall grade. The overall grade is based off @xMAssStAtiC- stat along with a carry grade (% of goals for and goals against contributed/prevented by player), special teams efficiency, and value over replacement. I used this as the main basis for this entire thought procedure and what I did was I took each players % of what they contributed in terms of Goals Created (goals + (assists/2)) and Goals Prevented (blocks + (takeaways/2)) and divided GC by total goals for in that players games and GP divided by their player independent goals against (basically goals against + that players goals prevented). This way I was able to divide up the total grade stat by the % of contributions that player has on both offense and defense.

Here ends up being the top defensive grades:

For reference to compare the stat here is the top 5 Offensive graded D

So yeah, this gives a little recognition to maybe some of the unsung heroes for teams that don't get the glorious point stats. But, as you can see from the top 5 offensive D too that there are 3 that are relatively close to the D grades on the top defensive D as well. Really to me, I think the whole sum of a players parts is what makes a really great player especially at D in 19. While its nice to have one or the other sometimes its better to have that middle ground where you can get both out of a guy.

 

I think incorporating total shots allowed could be a useful tool if we figured out how to utilize it properly. Walking away from a game where you only allowed 3 shots usually draws a lot of attention from the eye test but not necessarily in any of these formulas.

 

Yeah I tried to do some sort of Corsi or Fenwick score but not seeing how many shots were against a guy made it impossible and I don't feel like going through and adding up every guys shots against total per game. This is why I like doing the stats outside of the actual shots they face and simply on the things that they can control more. Also when I see 3 shots in a game I'm instantly looking at the TOA to see if the team that gave up 3 spent all game in their offensive zone.

 

If the data is already accessible would you mind throwing up the top 10 of the combined grades? Rather than separating the best D and best Off grades, combine the two for an all around list. Good work man

The fact that me and @Looped61 are not on this list is insane.

 

Well seeing as how you're 58th overall, 28th on offense and 106th on defense I don't see how that qualifies you for the top 10 list @Berrakov . @Looped61 is 73rd overall, 78th offensively, and 80th defensively.

Now mark this all as dumb like you have with every one of my posts ever since you tried to slander the Reign management in discord but stats don't lie and oh hey we haven't quit at all yet either while sit at the top of the division with the Cuda. #AnybodyTheyBidOnIsGoingToSuckSeason.

He even said it was based off lgs rankings as of this week..not on the list then climb the ranks

 

Not off LG ranking but the advanced analytics I use to grade players and come up with projextions based off data from all 9 PSN szns from every level. Similar to the stats that Mass puts out each week.
