The Vezina Trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League's goaltender who is "adjudged to be the best at this position". At the end of each season, the thirty-one NHL general managers vote to determine the winner. It is named in honor of Georges Vezina, goaltender of the Montreal Canadiens from 1910 until 1925, who died in 1926 of tuberculosis. The Trophy was first awarded after the 1926–27 NHL season and was awarded to the top goaltender. His 10 shutouts were 3 more than every other goalie but whats more impressive is the fact that he accomplished that feat with a very suspect defense for a majority of the season. He saw plenty of rubber throughout the course of this season as he had the 2nd most shots faced in the league while somehow finishing 3rd in total save percentage on top of being in arguably the toughest division (again). Big Tony's consistency helped the Avalanche capture the Presidents' Trophy as they are one of the favorites for Lord Stanley. I'm curious to see whether Tony stays a goalie for 19 or if he returns to forward, nonetheless he has proven that he can go toe to toe with some of the best goalies in LG. 3.) @BizyBounce : 52GP 33-17-2 80.2SV% 2.04GAA 6SO 560 SHOTS FACED (10.8 S/G) Record vs Playoff Teams: 30GP 16-12-2 80.2SV% 2.07GAA 3SO 333 SHOTS FACED (11.1 S/G) Record vs Fringe Teams: 8GP 8-0-0 84.9SV% 1.31GAA 2SO 73 SHOTS FACED (9.1 S/G) Record vs Non Playoff Teams: 14GP 9-5-0 77.9SV% 2.40GAA 1SO 154 SHOTS FACED (11.0 S/G) Another former goalie from The Peg graces the list. Bounce had another good season coming off his Cup win previously. He was "the man" in the cage for the Rangers playing 52 games and averaging just under 11 shots per game. Although 10/17 of his losses game in the first third of the season, he managed to stay composed and finished the remainder of the season strong. Ultimately, Bounce finished 5th in the league for GAA and tied for 3rd in shutouts. The Rangers high octane offense, pre-existing chemistry and Bounce's own excellent play throughout the course of the season catapulted the Rangers to the top of their conference. 4.) @Tolvanen l11l : 48GP 27-12-9 83.6SV% 1.95GAA 7SO 608 SHOTS FACED (12.7 S/G) Record vs Playoff Teams: 28GP 12-10-2 82.8SV% 2.00GAA 3SO 354 SHOTS FACED (12.6 S/G) Record vs Fringe Teams: 9GP 6-2-1 85.8SV% 1.66GAA 2SO 106 SHOTS FACED (11.8 S/G) Record vs Non Playoff Teams: 11GP 9-0-2 83.8SV% 2.03GAA 148 SHOTS FACED (13.5 S/G) Wow what a year it's been for Tolvanen. After he had a good season 29 and one of the most historic playoff performances in LG history, Tolvanen proved that he wasn't some 1 season wonder and has emerged as one of the premier goalies in LG. He played for the Blues up until the trade deadline where he got shipped off to a playoff contender in Edmonton for Skinnasty 53 and a couple of draft picks. He led all goalies in total save percentage and finished 3rd in GAA all while facing the 5th most shots in the league and is one of the favorites for the Vezina. 5.) @RoaringViper : 49GP 36-11-3 81.9SV% 1.87GAA 6SO 518 SHOTS FACED (10.6 S/G) Record vs Playoff Teams: 28GP 14-11-3 79.2SV% 2.26GAA 3SO 307 SHOTS FACED (11.0 S/G) Record vs Fringe Teams: 11GP 11-0-0 83.0SV% 1.52GAA 1SO 100 SHOTS FACED (9.1 S/G) Record vs Non Playoff Teams: 11GP 11-0-0 88.3SV% 1.20GAA 111 SHOTS FACED (10.1 S/G) It's always nice to see a newer guy make the list. Coming off a great rookie season where he was the backup to APsychicTaco, Viper took full control of the helm for Chicago this season and ran with it to much avail. Viper stayed consistent throughout the course of the season and finished with the most wins in the league. He also went undefeated against every non playoff team, grabbing every possible point and maintaining an above .500 against playoff teams. Viper tied for 3rd in shutouts; his 81.9SV% is good for 4th while he led all goaltenders in GAA.
