Please Vote! Save Laval?

With Laval sitting at an impressive 2 -22 record with a 20 game losing streak. How long should the league let this go on? What are the long term effects on the league as a whole, and what purpose does it serve to continue to let the players that are most likely contemplating if the ban is worth it suffer any longer?

Is just being able to field 6 the new goal, or does there need to be some sort of prerequisite to actually managing a team in this league?

I only ask these questions in third party to gauge the leagues thoughts.

To the players of Laval ~ This post is not a reflection to your level of commitment or skill. But purely for discussion.

The team is doomed.

There is nothing management can do to really help, sure they can make 100 trades, but you’re trading for other teams scraps hoping to get players who won’t quit and somehow gel with everyone on the team.

For players suffering through this, play with each other and make connections, get each other better, because your stats will suck and your price will be lowered for next biddding due to it.

 

I mean. SAN lost 17 to start the season.

There's ways to somewhat turn it around. Without becoming a playoffs team, there's ways to aim at 4-5 win weeks as a team. It sucks for the guys left with this burden, but at the end of the day, losing is part of management. Definitely sucks for the players involved, but when we sign up, we know this is a possibility. It's gonna have to be to them to have a reality check and realize they need to change something to make the reste of their season bearable.

 

Have to give players that want to play a chance to play. If players will take the ban, there is always someone willing to step in and take their place. However, players on a good chl team wouldnt wanna be called up so in that sense its complicated. Have to just have fun and not take a free hockey league as serious.

 

Just waive me , all I ask

 

Buy me an Xbox and I'll have that team in the playoffs in a month

Let me unretire and put me on Laval. They will have a goalie who will show up for 6 a week. I can steal a few a week if we don’t get a scrub hunted.

Don’t save them. It sucks but it shows the bigger problem of teams not coming out of bidding anywhere near balanced. Until the management process gets overhauled, this will continue. And to an extent, I think it’s a feature rather than a bug of the current system. It’s a reliable source of site income when people take the bans and buyout and it gives some people a chance for a few games at a higher level.

Its really frustrating being a player on one of those teams, but it is what it is at this point.

I wonder if a pre-selected or generated AHL management pool would be more efficient. NHL owners could see a list of candidates, their previous management history in the league and success in the role. I'm sure there's qualified AHL- level managers who don't get the chance because they don't know the right people in the upper leagues.

 

@rollinj0071 was so adamant on making the jump to the AHL because he was sick of getting his guys called up that he bid on CHL'ers and quit. Nice job... DON'T TAKE MANAGEMENT IF YOU ARE NOT WORTH IT.

 

There's hardly 20 people that actually WANT to do management. Even more less "qualified" people. LMAO. Even the qualified ones as far as skills go don't mean they'll do well. There is no perfect receipe. There will always be shit teams. Because that's the kinda generation we live in. Couple L's and people quit. All about instant gratification. People don't wanna hear about the process. "We lose cause we're shit and I ain't shit so you're shit" attitude is costing teams everywhere. Even good ones.

Reality is, people hate losing, and they love the easy way out. Laval was a victim of that. Plain simple.

 

Food for thought -

There are a lot of veteran Goalies in this league who do not apply for management due to the free contract being a waste. Relying almost exclusively on skaters to take the spot because of how expensive good players are.

Would a review of how the "free contracts" are given out potentially inject more veteran leadership; who know and play with more skaters than anyone else in the league?

 

This is brought up every season and it will never happen. If you want to manage as a G, basically pick your 2 free contracts, tell them which org to go to, and have them bid on you. Of course they need to be on board, but that's how Goalies should take "management."

 

there was a big discussion on the management issue in several threads. “Has LG Become Stale” made by Sweet Lou was one of them and I even made a separate thread since there was so much discussion.

A lot of people think management needs an overhaul but there has been no response from McDonald or Tris on it. The common concept was that we need to expand the management pool in order to improve quality of management. That leads to more balanced teams and more competitive hockey. You can expand the management pool by:

1. providing incentives to manage (free ESHL buy ins or free platinum on site)

2. Creating a system in which a certain player taking management (such as a G) doesn’t handicap the team in bidding.

Picture a system where Wingels or someone does a site data crunch to rank a players overall as either 1st line Forward or 3rd line Defense or Backup G, etc. then you assign salaries to those who take management based on their ranking. A 3rd line D man can take management and maybe only cost 750k in that system and it won’t cripple his team in bidding because he will have more cap than say Sweet Lou who may cost 4.5m as a 1st line forward. The issue with something elaborate is it takes time to implement and it gets tricky determining a player value and the associated cap hit.

But bottom line is there are ways to make LG better and improving management pool is one of them in my opinion.
