The Norris Trophy is awarded to the defenseman who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position.

Before we start, I want to make sure everyone knows that no member of the committee was or will be allowed to vote for an award in which they are nominated.

The Community Vote will be included in the final vote, along with the committee votes.

Also, for Strength of schedule, the lower the number, the tougher your schedule. If your SOS was a 7.8 (Conf) and a 15.2 (League), your average game played would be against the 8th place team in the conference, and 15th in the league as a whole. Really high=really poor SOS

On top of that, something new we have introduced this season is SOS (Lines), for this we had people go through every single game for every single nominee, and determine at the time of that game, what line they were facing off against. We initially tested this with one person's games, and had 2 of us go through each game independently and write down what we thought each line was. We found that we agreed on every single game, so we went through the rest working together. Can it be considered subjective? Yes, but we have people doing this who are about as unbiased as you can get, and we felt like this measurement combined with the normal team-based SOS would paint a fuller picture.

We've also added Home and Away records, both this and the line based SOS were heavily requested, this is our first go around with it, so if you guys think there are better ways, we are open to suggestions.

Finally, to explain a new stat that we've included this season, from the thread where it was first added to the site; "Own End Efficiency (OEE): While many people who never get points claim to be “shutdown” defenders few are, this is your put up or shut up stat boys. Measuring the amount of time an opponent needs to score on average against you." Pretty straightforward, the higher the number, the better in zone defense you've been playing. It's how much zone time opponents need to score against you.

If you guys have any questions as to why someone was not included, I will be happy to answer and provide the numbers to back it up.

Also at the bottom I've included all of the stats and info we have for the finalists, please feel free to use them before you vote.

    Here are your 6 finalists for the Season 8 Norris Trophy;

One of many Xbox converts over the past few seasons, Spooer came over and absolutely dominated on the defensive side of the puck, leading the league in takeaways with a whopping 157. He also posted the 3rd best goals against average amongst Norris finalists, and 2nd in that category vs playoff teams. With that being said, he was last for finalists in +/- with a still solid +30, and he was 4th in +/- vs playoff teams. He also had the lowest team based strength of schedule between finalists. However, he won the most games of any finalist vs 1st lines, and tied for the most wins vs playoff teams, with 14. He also played on the worst team of all finalists, and had the 2nd fewest giveaways for finalists. Quite the debut on the PSN side for Peridot.

Predominantly a depth defenseman in his first two seasons, Kipper finally got a chance to step into a top pairing role this season for the Carolina Hurricanes, where he immediately embraced it and thrived getting a chance to play with and against top competition. He was 3rd in goals per game both total and against playoff teams, as well as 3rd in takeaways vs playoff teams, and played the 2nd toughest schedule, team wise. That being said, he was last in points per game amongst finalists, and last in assists per game. He also had the 3rd most giveaways for finalists. However, he didn't play more than 11 games with any single forward, which no other d man dealt with, and he was tied for 2nd in terms of fewest penalty minutes taken.

Matty Cups made his return to the PSN side this season, as owner of the Capitals and made it seem as though he'd never left, because he did not miss a stride. Ptp had the single best goals against average of any skater in the entire league at 1.11, as well as the best of any finalist vs playoff teams with an astounding 1.00. Also, in Own End Efficiency, a stat we are newly using this season, Ptp led the league with 4:31, meaning it took on average, 4 minutes and 31 seconds of zone time to score against his team when he was on the ice. On the other hand, he had the least amount of takeaways of all finalists, with 98 in total and also last vs playoff teams with 54. He also played with arguably one of the best, if not the best line in the league this season. With that being said, they definitely took care of business, as his 25 wins are the most of any d man this season. Also, his only losses this season came to other teams' first lines, so he won every game he was expected to this season.

Sloshy Boxers found his way back to the Eastern Conference this season, where he previously enjoyed a very successful stint as the Tampa Bay owner, though this time he was the GM of a different team in the Sunshine State, the Florida Panthers. Sloshy played the most difficult schedule of any of the finalists in terms of team based SOS. He also had the 3rd most points, and was 3rd in PPG. On top of that, he was 2nd for finalists in takeaways, with 118. However, he had by far the highest goals against average, at 2.35 overall, and 2.40 vs playoff teams. He also had the most giveaways of any finalist, both overall and vs playoff teams. On the other hand, he tied for the 2nd lowest amount of PIM's, and was also tied for 3rd in assists per game vs playoff teams. He also tied for the 2nd most wins vs 1st lines.

The only Norris finalist to see himself traded this season, habsdan found a ton of success with both the Rangers and the Kings this season. Regardless of the conference he was in, or the people he played with, he managed to put up great numbers all around. He had the 2nd lowest goals against average of all finalists, as well as the 2nd fewest amount of regulation losses, with just 3. He also had the least amount of giveaways with just 158 all season. It wasn't all sunshine and daisy's though, as he had the fewest goals of finalists with just 2, and he also played the 2nd easiest schedule, team wise of finalists. That being said, he didn't lose to a 3rd line all season, and had the 2nd best assists per game amongst finalists. He's also 3rd in both takeaways at 116, and +/- with a +35.

A former Norris winner, Brayden makes his return to the group of finalists with arguably the best offensive season LGHL PSN has seen from a defenseman. He broke the record for most points by a dman in a season, with 70, as well as the previous best +/- for a dman, held by @Fumancheezy_ by going +91. His 24 wins were good for 2nd amongst finalists and he scored a whopping 20 goals, 10 more than any other defenseman in the league. That being said, he played the least amount of first lines at 6, and went 1-3 when he played away games. His GAA vs playoff teams was also the 2nd highest at 2.12 goals per game, and he had the 2nd most giveaways at 248. However, his GAA vs non-playoff teams was best of all finalists at 1.00, he was 2nd in takeaways vs playoff teams with 73, and his team based strength of schedule tied for 3rd, at 14.96. He also tied for the most games vs playoff teams, and most wins vs playoff teams.

I'd hope people would take the time to look at all the stats, but I don't expect it. That's what we have a committee for, so that these awards aren't just popularity contests, and the people that have had the best overall seasons are rewarded as such

Thanks @JClaus33 for all the work you put in. Your work really shows the seasons people had beyond just goals, assists, +/- and record.

I'm honored to be a norris finalist and thank you @Kingbling647 @KingClutch x 77 @BioIogics for helping me have the season I had. I think my boy @x Braydenn has to win the norris. No matter who he played with/against putting up those kind of stats is incredible.

Looking at the stats i have no choice but to go with ptp.

70 pts, 20 goals is so impressive. Like fuck man wow ! That being said, west hosting stuff and his record when hes not on his connection makes me not wanna vote for him. Going 1-3 with that line the only games you arent playing west, idk about that. He and ptp played on arguably the best lines in the league. Ptp lead in the defensive zone effiency and thats why my vote goes to him. He was second in points, #1 in overall record and #1 in Defensive zone efficiency.

    Good job commitee
