The Vezina Trophy is awarded annually to the goaltender who is "adjudged to be the best at this position" Hello friends, So Iv been brought in to help with awards this season, and I want to first take a second to state @JClaus33 does a stupid amount of work for these and props to him and the rest of the boys who are doing awards. Thankfully, I was tasked with an easier more stat based award. How the Vezina Nominees were picked is as follow: The Bar: To be nominated you must have hit these two criteria: Achieve a Save Percentage higher than 80.00 Play more at least 36 games This left me with 14 goaltenders who playing 36 or more games, and had a S% higher than 80. They were then ranked in 4 categories. If you did not see how I did my all star rankings for goaltenders, why the hell not. That's super rude. Anyways, here is how it works: Picking the Top 6: First we ranked them from 1-14 in Save Percentage. S% is the clearest and most important metric for goaltenders as its a clear indicator of their performance. The more pucks you stop, the better you are. Each of the 14 were given a point value, for example @TheyCallMeRevv finished first in S% so he was awarded 14 points. @Krok-o-dill finished second in S% so he was awarded 13 points, and so forth. Then we ranked them from 1-14 in Goals against average. This is a little less player based and involves some dependency on the team they play for, so they were award 50% of the value they received for S%. For example @XGeneral420X finished first in GAA so he was award 7 points, @TheyCallMeRevv finished second so he was awards 6.5, and so on all the way through for the 14 goalies. Next was Wins. This is the most team dependent stat so the 14 were ranked 1-14 and were given 25% of the value they received for S%. For example @Ucantcme_kamakaz finished in first for wins (tied with @XGeneral420X and @DrNasty415 for 35 but tie breaker was fewer games) so he was awarded 3.5 points, @DrNasty415 was awarded 3.25 points and so forth all the was through for the 14 goalies. Finally I awarded additional points based on you're ranking for Save Percentage vs playoff teams. The value of this was 25% of the value of overall Save Percentage. For Example @Krok-o-dill finished first in S% vs Playoff teams with 84.3% (very good) so he was awarded 3.5 points, followed by @TheyCallMeRevv who came second with 84.1 and received 3.25 so forth for all 14 goalies. Which leads us into our Nominees for the Season 8 LGHLPSN Vezina Trophy. __________________________________________________________________________ @TheyCallMeRevv Minnesota Wild Ranking Score: 26.00 Overall Production 86.0 SV%, 1.72 GAA, 10 SO Vs. Playoff Teams 15-12-2, 84.1 SV%, 2.01 GAA, 4 SO Vs. The Season 7 Vezina trophy winner put together another fantastic season on a sub 100 point Wild team. Rev ranked First in total save percentage, second in goals against average, second in S% vs playoff teams and 6th in wins. While his win totals lacked compared to some of the other nominees its the most team dependent stat and the Wild were very average this season. He also had far and away the hardest schedule. Great job kid. __________________________________________________________________________ @Krok-o-dill Carolina Hurricanes Ranking Score: 23.25 Overall Production: 83.6 SV%, 2.01 GAA, 4 SO Vs. Playoff Teams: 13-3-3, 84.3 SV%, 1.87 GAA, 3 SO Vs. He crushed it against the tougher match ups going 13-3-3 with an 84.3 S% good for first among nominees. __________________________________________________________________________ @dankatsva13 San Jose Sharks Ranking Score: 22.75 Overall Production: 83.1 SV%, 1.87 GAA, 8 SO Vs. Playoff Teams: 12-8-1, 81.5 SV%, 2.16 GAA, 4 SO Vs. Dan kept his sharks in it powering them to a divisional playoff spot. He ranked third in total S%, 3rd in GAA and 3rd in the NHL in shutouts with 8. While he destroyed non playoff teams, his S% vs playoff teams was middle of the pack (6th) however 81.5 is a great number. __________________________________________________________________________ @xUnknown_31 Washington Capitals Ranking Score: 19.25 Overall Production: 82.5 SV%, 1.91 GAA, 8 SO Vs. Playoff Teams: 13-5-2, 82.6 SV%, 1.97 GAA, 5 SO Vs. Nonplayoff Teams: 10-6-6, 82.3 SV%, 1.86 GAA, 3 SO Record: 23-11-8 (42 GP) Strength of Schedule (Team): 8.74 (Conf), 16.95 (League) Unknown had a great year for his Caps, helping Pee take Washington to a 112 point season. His performance against qaulity opponents is the definition of consistentcy, he had a 82.6 S% vs playoff teams with a 82.3SV% vs non playoff teams. What hurt him was his slightly average (in comparison to the other noms) when it came to non playoff teams. However, great season. __________________________________________________________________________ @Ucantcme_kamakaz Edmonton Oilers Ranking Score: 18.75 Overall Production: 82.2 SV%, 1.95 GAA, 6 SO Vs. Playoff Teams: 16-7-1, 80.6 SV%, 2.19 GAA, 2 SO Vs. Nonplayoff Teams: 19-2-0, 84.1 SV%, 1.68 GAA, 4 SO Record: 35-9-1 (45 GP) Strength of Schedule (Team): 8.44 (Conf), 16.62 (League) Last seasons Cup Finalist tendy for those Penguins had a lit season for the Oilers. He completely crushed Non Playoff teams losing twice in 21 games while still maintaing a above 80% SV% against playoff squads. Another good year leading his team in net to first place in the west. __________________________________________________________________________ @XGeneral420X New York Rangers Ranking Score: 18.00 Overall Production: 81.2 SV%, 1.57 GAA, 11 SO Vs. Playoff Teams: 15-3-5, 81.4 SV%, 1.70 GAA, 3 SO Vs. Nonplayoff Teams: 20-4-2, 81.0 SV%, 1.45 GAA, 8 SO Record: 35-7-7 (49 GP) Strength of Schedule (Team): 8.69 (Conf), 16.63 (League) Lastly we have General. Repping the New York Frenchies, he plowed the competition in every team based stat. Finishing first in wins, GAA, and shutouts. What hurt his final ranking was his save percentage, while not bad by any means he placed 8th in overall SV% and 7th in SV% vs Playoff teams. The Rangers were the best team in the league and a big part of it was General, great job man.
