Should Syracuse Crunch get discord?

• It's free.

Skype is free as well, but TeamSpeak, Mumble, and Ventrillo all require you to pay a host of you want a dedicated server. Running a server yourself is complicated, taxing on your system, and not reliable. Curse is free but has premiums, ads, and other shit. Wondering how Discord will make money? In the future they will add avatars, color schemes, etc. that will be available at a cost but the core functionality will be free. Forever.

• It's easy.

It took me literally one minute to set up my account, 2 minutes to create a server, and 2 minutes to download/install the desktop app. Done.

• (PC) Gaming is all about options.

Want to use your browser? Got it. Want to use a desktop app? Sure! Need a place for you and your buddies to chill? It's got that. How about your massive guild with 5,000 members? Yup, that's ok too. Light, dark. Full, compact. It's all here.

• Features you'd expect

Chances are that if you think there's a really cool feature Discord should have, it's probably already there. If not, suggest it to the devs! There's an overlay so you don't have to alt+tab. You can summon an air horn, John Cena, or DJ Khaled on command. Hopping between text and voice channels is easy as can be.

• Community support

The community is amazing. People are programming bots for music. They're talking about Discord. They're chilling out. They're communicating with devs in such a way that Discord has a bright future and excited fans.

• Security and reliability

You don't have to worry about getting hacked. It's not going to happen. There's no IP Address you need to hide. Streaming? Your info is hidden automatically. Discord servers are high quality and you choose the region of your server for maximum performance. I personally have never seen a server go down. People's voices haven't gone robotic and there's no call drops to worry about.

• It's built for the future

Discord is beautiful. The UI is both amazing and customizable. It's getting updated constantly. This subreddit is a perfect example. Discord is going places.

On the real, yes. LG states in the rules somewhere that Discord is the official app they use. Meanwhile I've got 3-4 different apps I need to use because of various teams not using discord.

Is there a Groupme computer app? Seemless browser version as well? Can you you Groupme for seemless voice chat? Discord is the best.

 

Simple answer is every team should use discord, groupme sucks. Only peasants uses shitty apps like groupme, whatsapp or Skype.
