Spengler Cup (tournament)

Proposal:

A tournament per league for members of non-playoff teams. You could run it using the FNP system. Having your team GM/Captains randomly selecting from the player pool. Could run for first 2 or 3 rounds of the playoffs. At the end of each playoff round you could allow each team to draft an additional player for new pool. Ending a when the finals start.... Allowing the finals to shine alone.

Reason:

Last season my team never made the play-offs. Resulting in a 2+ month off season. Far too long in my opinion. I also believe a lot of bans could be avoiding doing this. Seemed to be a lot players banned in the off season due to boredom.

Poll:

Just wanting to gauge the leagues or sites interest in this. I am aware there will be a World Cup AFTER the playoffs have concluded. This is not to replace this event. This format would allow each league to have its own tournament. Where as the World Cup will be limited.

 

I just like playing i dont care what happens.

I like this a lot! I think most of us are done with drop in games unless we are absolutely desperate to play. Since we are part of LG, I assume we prefer structured play from people who are committing to play in this fashion. This keeps players engaging with each other, with the game and with LG. Its the same reason why we will continue to do podcasts of all kinds in the off season.

Anything to keep this community engaged in the league and the game is a YES for me!

 

IHL...

 

Is this a suggestion of what to call the league or are you saying there will be an IHL starting up soon?

 

I have heard whispers of world championship play but have not heard anything concrete

 

The World Championship would be AFTER the playoffs, I am talking about during.

The World Cup is a PS wide thing. Meaning there will be limited amount of teams along with a minimum amount of players. I can estimate that a good 75% of people who sign up for it will not be playing.

This is for AHL (and could be done for other leagues). Very easy for the league to set up. Just have 8-10 teams. The GM for each team would use the FNP format to draft their team from the pool of sign ups.

I just know from experience that if you miss the playoffs its a long ass time before the bidding starts up again. (estimated end of Sept)

 

We 100% HAVE to do something in the offseason more than just FNP. I am up for just about anything so let me know what you need from me and let's do it!!

This is such a good idea! If you need help with running anything let me know. This would be great for everyone like you said to avoid bans and not have a long offseason. Individual and team stats should be recorded for this tournament just like the LG setup. Great thinking man.

 

On xbox there is a short season for those players who didnt make the playoff or are knocked out in the first round, its called ihl. It takes place during the playoffs

 

I believe its only 2 or 3 weeks with a draft to start see LGIHL
