The Top 5 LWs (Statistically) in s39 AHL

First off, I must start off with a for-warning; these rankings are purely based on stats and stats alone. They were taken directly from LG's stats page. I will explain down below how I calculated and where there may be some errors. I will also say, that I personally don't agree with this list, but again, it's only based on stats. If you are not featured on this list, it does not mean you aren't better than any of the guys, it just means that they had better stats. Sorry, not sorry. Okay here we go:

CRITERIA:
- Played in at least 20 AHL regular-season games during Season 39
- Is currently listed as an LW on the site

There were 68 eligible players that met the criteria above.


CATEGORIES:

I decided to base ratings over 3 categories; Offense, Defense, and Team Play

I did some asking around and everyone kind of agreed that the following stats best represented each category:

Offense - Points Per Game, Goals Per Game, Assists Per Game

Defense - Takeaways Per Game, Interceptions Per Game, Own End Efficiency

Team Play - Penalties Per Game, Plus Minus Per Game, Win Percentage

Again, these might not be the best stats to judge someone off of, but it's a start.

I then calculated the Overall Score for each category for each player. I'll leave the math out because it's not hard to calculate overall but for a quick explanation: The player with the most in a category is a 99 and based on how far other players are away from that number they are assigned an overall for that category.

A key stat missing is Opponent Win Percentage. It would have taken me way too long to calculate the OW% for every LW in the A this season.

I must also mention these categories are not weighed. It is something that will probably be in my next batch (C or RWs). But I wanted to get these out first and see what people think and get some feedback.

5 - @Mooseballs04

I've known Moose since our days in Edmonton and he most certainly is one of the most underrated guys in LG. If he wasn't on west ping, he may very well be in the N. Moose had a great season and hopefully can continue his success in the rest of the postseason.



4 - @I Costello l

I was lucky enough to play with Costy this season and man, he is one of the best wingers I've ever played with and an even better dude. Who knows he might even be higher on this list if he could finish a breakaway . Anyways, Costello had a career season, but it was unfortunate that our season ended the way it did.



3 - @CLiiNcH

Arguably the best defensive LW in the A, Clinch comes in at #3. Unlike the previous two players, I dont have any history with him, but I have heard from close sources that he basically is a 3rd defenseman that can score. Not to mention he was tasked with carrying a third line so that most likely explains the lackluster offensive stats. However in a league where skill is often associated with offensive production, it's nice to see a guy like Clinch place inside the top 5.



2 - @MarnerToTavares

Marner is coming off of a career season on one of the league's top teams. His incredible playmaking ability has launched him to #2. Some may be shocked to not see him at #1, but this rating is based on your all-around game, not just your offense. That being said, Marner still has solid Overalls in the non offensive categories, but not enough to beat out:




1 - @Cronkxy

This doesn't come as a surprise to me. Cronkxy is arguably the top forward on what I believe is the top team. Not to mention he had 60 goals this season. What really sticks out is his defensive stats. For someone as offensively gifted as Cronk is, you don't usually see defensive stats like his. That clearly pushes him past Marner. Oh, and I heard he's even better at G.

I personally think Alex is better than multiple players on this list. Its purely based on stats.

 

100% need more of these in the future.
