With a 1-4-0 start things are starting off rocky in Washington, how will they right they ship moving forward?

    Two Weeks Notice

    Two Weeks Notice
    First Sim Recap

Well folks the first two weeks of the season are in the books for our Washington Capitals, and after 1-4-0 start owner Ted Leonsis is showing just how short of a leash he gave the former, yes you read that correctly, former General Manager George McPhee. McPhee was removed from his position after the Capitals were showing signs of distress early in the season.

“Something had to change, for years now the joke about us has been that we have a successful regular season and then choke in the playoffs. As the leader of this organization it would be a disservice to our fans if I wasn't doing everything I could to put us in a winning position.” Said Leonsis

The name of the new General Manager has not been released yet but there is speculation it is a former player who has had past experience in minor roles in management with the Tampa Bay and Chicago organizations.

Within hours of the appointment of the new General Manager reports began to leak out of Capitals HQ that the plan was to overhaul the team to rid the organization of players that had become too comfortable with their position in the organization and were mailing it in.

False reports we’re rampant as the Capitals’ phones were ringing off the hook from other teams among the news that there had been a change in management philosophy. One such rumor had Washington’s Captain Alexander Ovechkin headed to Boston for a return of Patrice Bergeron, Milan Lucic, and Chris Kelly. This deal was presumed dead when the papers were filed to send Boston’s Kelly to Carolina.

The deals that have been made official for Washington so far have seen some turnover in the middle two forward lines for Washington and the departure of longtime Washington defenseman Mike Green. Capitals fans will want to get to the airport quick if they would like to say goodbye to the likes of Mikhail Grabovski, Troy Brouwer, Jason Chimera, Joel Ward, and as mentioned previously Mike Green.

When all was said and done in Washington, we would see the Caps send out five roster players, two prospects, and a 2014 5th round draft pick for six roster players and one prospect through trade and acquire another through free agency.

Soon to be seen in a Capitals jersey are Michael Cammalleri, T.J. Galliardi, Victor Svedberg, Zach Kassian, Chris Higgins, Matt Kassian, and veteran defenseman Ian White. Future fan favorites, cult icons, and playoff heroes? Hopefully.

Only time will tell if the Caps made the right decisions in shaking up the locker room this early in the season but just what are you supposed to do when a team known for it’s regular season success and post-season failures falls flat out of the gate?

    Trade Details:
Tom Wilson ($1.195m) and Mikhail Grabovski ($2.885m) for Mike Cammalleri ($6m, $3m retained) and T.J. Galiardi ($1.250m, $.625m retained) in a deal with Calgary.

Mike Green ($5.930m), Troy Brouwer ($3.545m) and unsigned rookie Madison "Mad Dog" Bowey in a deal with Nashville to acquire Victor Stalberg ($3m) and AHL defenseman Joonas Jarvinen ($.720m).

Washington will acquire Zach Kassian ($.870m) and Chris Higgins ($2.5m) from Vancouver for Jason Chimera ($1.9m) and Joel Ward ($2.885m)
    .
Capitals have acquired Matt Kassian ($.575m) from Ottawa for a 5th round draft pick.

Capitals sign Defenseman Ian White to a 1 year $4m contract.
