Here we are with an aids colour to start off because the last few things I've done were pretty boring colour wise. This time around we are nearing the end of the season so myself and a two others decided to put some work into a deadline review/grade thingy. Way too many trades to track every single one and talk about it so its just an overall sum up of the nonsense we have seen. WEST: Colorado Avalanche : Grade A+ (lost a bet had to upgrade this) COL now has arguably the best forward core in the league. Big deadline pickups while still keeping assets for next season. Only thing they seemed to fail on was taking the D core to the next level. Could be a lot better but still solid for what it is especially with how good this forward group is. NOV St. Louis Blues : Grade C The blues didn't do much besides acquire some draft picks and add Kadri to the top 6. News of Kyle quitting will hurt this team as they didn't do much to improve their d-core. Dallas Stars : Grade C- This team barely had a pulse come deadline doing close to nothing except change around their third line. Pretty disappointing. Nashville Predators : Grade F You traded flapjack for practically nothing. This isn't S3. Not a very good deadline weekend for the Preds at all. Not sure what the thought process is here as they bounced the third line around and gave up Flap.. all being 1 point out of a playoff spot. If this is the start of a rebuild it was done poorly. Minnesota Wild : Grade C+ Picked up a reliable backup while also adding smiirk earlier in the week to slightly help out their d core. Average deadline moves nothing game changing whatsoever. Going to need a lot more than small moves to fix the playoff hopes here. Best of luck to you guys Winnipeg Jets : Grade C- Same thing as Minny, did minor moves that will help but also traded away some of their best players without fixing that top 6 role. Could've done a lot more. Thanks for moving me btw Calgary Flames : Grade C+ Traded Gui for JPH.. bit of a downgrade. Then picked up Sobo. Nothing major at all tbh lol. Whether they got better or not will unfold these remaining weeks. San Jose Sharks : Grade C+ Sharks didn't do anything on deadline weekend when they could have improved in some areas. It might hurt later on but this roster is still solid with or without those upgrades. Looking forward to seeing how they do in playoffs. Los Angeles Kings : Grade B- Added some offensive fire power but forgot about about the D core which seems to be a reoccurring theme this week for majority teams. Goalies will be relied on hard. Edmonton Oilers : Grade B+ Flipped a lot of faces over deadline week and managed to upgrade their previous forward core which is always nice. Could have used another top 4 dman to really take their deadline week to the next level but still all round good moves. Vancouver Canucks : Grade C+ Didn't do much outside of adding Clark when they really could have used some defensive upgrades for the playoff push. Sitting in that last wild card spot you would have assumed beefgod would have had more of an impact on deadline week. Las Vegas Golden Knights : Grade D+ Vegas had a pretty disappointing deadline. Downgraded the top 6 while keeping the d core relatively similar with 1 minor move. Not the type of deadline you'd like to see from a once contending team. Rumor has it that their Owner was close to MIA during the weekend. Major loss for their players is this is true. Arizona Coyotes : Grade B+ Just like bidding, Arizona nailed this. But can they actually turn it around? Finally adding a real 2C while getting depth around AND improving the d core in some aspects. Should be interesting to see how this team plays out the rest of the season. #NOVMOVEMENT Anaheim Ducks : Grade D Ducks picked up breezy which is nice but other than that they did close to nothing. In how tight the west is I'm not sure why they didn't try to do more damage as they can easily still make a wildcard spot. Hate to see it. Chicago Blackhawks : Grade C+ Busy deadline moving a bunch of pieces around. Players coming in and out. Might be the most active I have ever seen @Raz-Orr . Far from a playoff team but he managed to pick up a few multi season players and picks for next season. Not the worst deadline for a non playoff team. This sums up what happened in the west, now to switch to another weird colour to keep this interesting for the beast we call the Eastern Conference. EAST New York Rangers : Grade A No major upgrades on a stacked team besides adding one of the best goalies in the league. Didn't make a lot of moves but did they really have to? Bo will win his first playoff game this season. Washington Capitals : Grade B- Caps moved one of the worst avail players for someone that I've been told is 9/9. So right off the bat great trade especially when the skill drop off in this trade isn't all that bad, Also gives the Caps more flexibility in lines. Would've been a great deadline if they managed to fill the holes on the third as they are missing a RW and RD. Not sure what the toxic owner will do but I am certain he has a few tricks up his sleeve. New Jersey Devils : Grade A Devils managed to upgrade nearly everywhere. Practically got Dustin gift wrapped for whatever reason. Didn't take any losses at all while making their roster even better. Great job. New York Islanders : Grade B- First off shout out to @BigFreeze064 for even being in a playoff spot right now. Mind blowing. Islanders had a weird deadline. Wasn't bad, wasn't good. Picked up some good pieces but seemed to forget about adding a true 1C and upgrading a D core that is gonna get SOAKED in 'loffs. Columbus Blue Jackets : Grade C Minor moves outside of adding Headshot (Eberle). Top heavy team with a heavy depth drop off. Should have looked to improve the bottom for sure. Also surprised they didn't look for a new backup. Cant imagine having under an .800 save % on NHL 19. Good luck there. Carolina Hurricanes : Grade C This team is average. Could have tried to do more on deadline to stock up for next season but failed to do so. Just have minor 2S contracts and minimal picks. Definitely missed out on some moves. Philadelphia Flyers : Grade B Hate Math or not, he tried to send as many players as possible to playoff teams and stack picks for next season. He has been on the struggle bus as an owner for a while and rumored to not be returning next season. To have so many assets for the next owner is fantastic. Great job trying to keep Philly competitive for seasons to come. Pittsburgh Penguins : Grade B+ This team has an insane amount of fucking picks for next season. Absolutely nuts. Has to be a record. 18 draft picks!?!?! Sheesh. Did a fantastic job building for next season if Skillzy decides to return. After spending a bit of time on the Pens myself, this team was very poorly ran but without an AGM or even GM, it ain't easy. Good luck if you return. Toronto Maple Leafs : Grade D+ No idea what TOR was doing this deadline. You traded your best contract for nothing and then traded APX who you overpaid for, for Gui who you ALSO overpaid for. For a team that scumbagged the Wild earlier for a free top goalie I'm surprised they couldn't pull any of that nonsense at deadline to fix the mess they just made. BOOFalo Sabres : Grade B- Sabres only deadline move was for me which is interesting as they could've used a real 2C. Roster is very good all round (besides myself). Possibly will regret not adding that true 2C but there's enough firepower to make up for it. Boston Bruins : Grade C- I don’t think Boston did anything that will help their playoff chances. Definitely missed out on upgrading that third line. Yikes. Dreamy in Delosh out? OK. Montreal Canadiens : Grade B- Didn't do much besides swap depth in and out. Arguably the worst D core on paper, no idea why this hasn't been upgraded at all this season. Good Luck going into playoffs with grapecherry as your best dman. Very bold strat. Detroit Red Wings : Grade C+ Not sure some of these depth moves were for the better but adding Coorsi to the top 6 is a big help. Could've been a better deadline, could've been worse. Good luck on the playoff push. Florida Panthers : Grade C This is just a weird deadline week. You are clearly trying to rebuild but didn't manage to do enough. Much more could have been done without touching the 2S deals. Still better than what some did though. Ottawa Senators : Grade B Clear rebuild. Managed to get some picks while stacking a few multi season players. Whether Moran will actually do something with these assets next season who knows. Tampa Bay Lightening : Grade A TRAPE TRAPE TRAPE. Giving Tampa an A solely on the fact they traped the fuck out of NSH for Flap. WHAT AN LOL. Other than that, not much was done but still managed to get some picks to help for next season which I fully expect to be light years better than whatever the hell happened this season. This is the end, hope to see some tears and enjoyment come out of this as it was quite fun. Shout out to @xNav61 and @JTresatti for contributing towards this as well. We have a few more media thingy's coming out soon too. If anyone is ever interested in helping out feel free to contact myself on here or discord (lehk#3125).
