Im glad it didnt get stopped! Brock was doing the right thing by pushing him away with his legs. Im impressed to see that Brock has a ground game now and didnt look for ground and pound and was able to submit Carwin.
Yeah that is an added bonus to Brocks game, that and the answer if he could take a punch or not. My god he's going to be an even more of a beast for his next fight.
How lucky was Silva? Was getting dominated for 4 and a half straight rounds but finds the smallest opening to get the submission. I guess it's fair to give him credit for taking a pretty hard beating and staying in it till he got his chance.
I don't know about anyone else but I never counted Silva out. I always had the feeling that he could change things and he did. The man is a fucking robot. Don't get me wrong. I wanted Silva to lose and my hope level was high. I believe I had a facebook status that said "IS THIS GOING TO FUCKING HAPPEN!?!?!" but there was always that feeling. . . .
I was really wanting Sonnen to win that fight. I gotta admit, I did count Silva out there near the end. It looked like he was gassed and didnt have enough energy to pull out a sub. It was a good night of fights for sure. Cnat wait for the re-match!
Ya the last couple have. Im not too sure about the James Toney vs Randy Cotoure fight though. I may skip that one.....
I just find a lack of care there. It's supposed to be Boxing vs MMA but let's be honest here. . . When whoever wins, wins, are people really going to be saying "finally, MMA/Boxing is proven to be better"? I mean come on, it's just two old guys from different backgrounds, fighting. Until we get guys from each sport that are at the top of their game, who cares?
I was rooting for Sonnen but Silva didn't seem too gassed. Despite the pounding, he looked pretty good in the beginning of each round before Sonnen was able to take him down. I was more afraid of some crazy ass kick KO'ing Sonnen than the submission.
BJ Penn versus Frankie Edgar called. They want you to know they're the main event. Also Silva's win wasn't "luck" in the slightest.
Silva's team made a good point. Sonnen couldn't beat silva at sonnens own game. Sonnen faught the exaxt fight he wanted to with silva on the ground, he had every opportunity to end Silva and couldn't. Silva was not fighting anywhere near 100% either which i knew something was up because usually silva's takedown defense is unreal. I hope they dont rematch right away because if Sonnen couldnt finish Silva with 5 rounds pounding on Silva with injured ribs, he isnt goint to do it in a second fight with him healthy and smarter to your tactics.
How about them fights last night? James Toney got made a fool! I figured that would happen. He came in with no ground defense, Randy took his ankle and landed on top in mount and pounded on him until he decided to choke him out. Im glad that Nick Diaz really put the hurt on Marcus Davis I was even more stoked to see Gray Maynard beat Kenny Florian. Im not a huge Florian fan. And I never would have thought that Edgar would shut down Penn again. I though Penn would have put of a different fight this time but Edgar took it to him again. All in all, there were some great fights last night definitely surprised on that card.
I laughed so hard at that James Toney takedown that I barely saw what happened. Like barrel laughter. WAR DIAZ!!!!! Marcus Davis looked like he was growing a new face. I like Florian, but I fucking HAAAATE his brother. I wish someone would kick him directly in the teeth. If Penn fought like he did in that 5th round that fight would have been so much more competitive. I love BJ but fuck that was pathetic.
I don't think anyone expected that Toney fight to go any other way. That fight was pretty much pointless IMO but hey, Toney wanted it and he got it. I know they say he trained 9 months but what exactly did he learn in 9 months? You can't tell me they didn't know the gameplan for Randy was to come in and take him down. In the end, 'lights out' pretty much lived up to his name. Florian fight was meh for me. I think I was more put off by the asshole yelling his fucking head off. Sounded like that one fat comedian that yells. Can't think of his name though. From the entrance of BJ Penn something looked off, IMO. His demeanor just wasn't the same. I don't know if he was trying to be more serious or what but it didn't translate to the fight. In the beginning of the 4th round he showed a little bit of promise with some nice takedowns but then Edgar would find a way to get back up rather quickly. All in all I was disappointed. BJ has made how many fucking comebacks in his career? I thought last night would be another but it wasn't.
