What skills does a CHL forward need to play in the AHL?

Going off a post I saw from @Mykezero , I would like to ask the community: What skills does a CHL forward need to play in the AHL? What do AHL management teams look for going when acquiring players? What makes a player worth an AHL bid? Would love to hear feedback for someone who is trying to move up the ranks in this league.

Can confirm that forwards are toxic, defense are good people who get blamed for things that aren't their fault, and that goalies still aren't people.

Just watch what top players are doing, then practice it and apply it during LG games

It's interesting how the defense version of this tread was filled with really comprehensive advise, whereas this version is just sort of ... funny. As a goalie, I can't really help you with this one but I hope that some of the better forwards try to give you some real advice. The "obvious" things would be to try to play in some non-LG (club) games with some AHL guys. There are some toxic people here, but there are many genuinely nice guys that can give you constructive criticism about your play that would help you get better. Maybe post in the TC section of your AHL team's discord. If people see that you are just genuinely trying to get better, they will let you play with them. Some of my most fun non-LG games nowadays are with AHL guys I played with from prior seasons. If you let me know your position, I can let you know if we need someone to fill that position.

 

Thanks. I am wondering the same thing. It might be a reputation thing I don’t know lol. I play C or RW. Been playing a lot with my AHL club but i’ve mostly been on defense. Been in the league going on five seasons now, but been made some tag changes so not many people know who I am. Thanks for the input, greatly appreciated!

 

Move the puck quick try to play with better forwards to get better habits put the puck on net and be attentive to what the opposite goalie gives you

 

And be responsible defensively

 

Realize that you have defensive responsibilities also, if your d man pinches drop back to cover them, make yourself a threat multiple ways, be able to adapt to what the other team is giving you, you having a hatty but the team losing is still bad, and cycle the puck and work on your vision.
