For those of you who have an Elite, I am thinking of getting one but wonder how to get my saved games off the old hard drive to the new one. Does anyone have any idea on how to do this. Tris thought there was some cable that does it, but how do I get this cable?

    Thanks for any info

    Troy.

only way to get the cable is to buy the new HD seperate, use the cord then return the other HD..

or look for the cable on ebay..

This should do it. Move all your saves onto your computer and than onto your new HDD.

    Transfer Kit

Tell me why it wouldn't work with the transfer kit? Or just plain old memory cards?

if you want to move one save at a time, go for it.. it will be a pain.. the wire is 100x better and would take a lot less time.. thats why!!

I have this already, I used it to transfer the Madden franchise In (i think) Madden 06. I haven't touched it since. Anyway I dont think this will help you complete this, its been out well before the elite came out. Also I plan on getting the elite soon and would like to know how this is done... :)

Yea, but if he can't get one on eBay he would have to buy the 120 GB HDD and waste money and time anyways. Might as well use memory cards.

I thought there was a cable that came with the drive when purchased separately. You have to contact MS after you have purchased the Elite to get the transfer cable. Until it arrives you might be able to use the old drive on the Elite.

    Notes and instructions:

    Form:

I would stick with the MS transfer kit.

I also don't see any real advantage to purchasing the Eilte if your old XBOX is good. HDMI is there, but is it really that much better for the XBOX than component? Other than that what else is there?

Good question and I have pondered this for some time now, but with my current xbox 360 biting the dust for a second time :( and MS telling me that they will just repair it, I thought why not spend a little extra money and get the bigger HD (since my current one is all about used up) and get it in Black which I love. So it looks like I will be doing this. Once I get my old 360 back from MS I will seel it to EBgames and get $135 in cash which will help defer cost of the new box. Plus I think I read somewhere that the newer Elites have better working components and dont' get heated as much.... So I am with you on your thinking but I feel the time is right to get one now. So I guess I will be biting the proverbial bullet.

Thanks guys for all your help. I think I will call MS and ask what they think. I read somewhere where they will send you a cable to off load the old HD and up load to the new HD.

I will let you know when I get it. I certainly hope that they got everything right on these bad boys because I would imagine that this would a "3rd Generation" of 360's realistically.

When i called ms for them to repair my xbox that got the 3 red lights i asked the guy about the elite and if the red light issue was taken care of he said tell you the truth today was the first time i had a Elite that needed to be repair he goes he can't promise the issue is solved but he did say that he wasn't getting much calls for replacements on the elite which sounds good in my opinion i'm gonna be picking one up sometime in august or sept i like the fact its black it will match the rest of my units (tv,surround sound, computer, ps3 etc) so it will blend in well LOL.

I don't think the Elite has been selling as well as the premium model.

I had been thinking about trading in my premium for the elite (best buy warranty), but the HDD transfer was my issue. I can't see spending $179 to buy the HDD transfer everything and then trade the system. Too much hassle. If my premium dies again then maybe I'll make the switch.

also, a problem with transfering HD's.. when you take saves from the regular HD to the 120 HD you can not access the demos or downloaded content if you are not connected to live.. even if you re-downloaded the stuff you bought or downloaded, same thing happens.. you have to be connectec to live to use the material.. so if your net is down you cannot use your demos etc.. lol.. good stuff MS.

Ya I had a problem with the Oblivion expansions with my new XBOX. Everything worked fine until I went offline. All my progress on the expansions was gone. The next time I went on live my game "found" new content. Pissed me off big time.
